Position Summary
We’re looking for a DFH (Doors, Frames & Hardware) Project Specialist to join our growing team.
This is a hands‑on, hybrid estimating and project‑management role. You’ll be involved from the estimating stage through project completion, reviewing plans, completing takeoffs, preparing estimates, coordinating materials, and managing the details that keep projects moving.
You’ll work closely with our Glazing Project Managers and other AJ Glass team members, supporting the DFH workstream on mixed glazing/DFH projects while taking ownership of standalone DFH projects.
The ideal candidate will have 4-5 years of commercial construction estimating and/or project management experience. Experience with Division 8, doors, frames, and hardware is strongly preferred.
Full‑time, in‑person role‑based at AJ Glass in Marietta, GA, reporting to the Hardware Division Sr. Manager. Standard schedule:
Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m., with job‑site visits as needed.
- Review architectural plans, specifications, door schedules, hardware sets, and addenda to understand what the project requires.
- Complete takeoffs and prepare estimates for commercial doors, frames, and hardware.
- Obtain pricing from vendors and make sure we’re comparing the correct products, quantities, and scope.
- Identify missing information, conflicts, or potential problems before they become issues in the field.
- Prepare DFH pricing and proposal inputs, scope clarifications, hardware sets, schedules, and submittals as needed.
- Take ownership of standalone DFH projects from handoff through completion and manage the DFH workstream on mixed glazing/DFH projects in coordination with the assigned Glazing Project Manager.
- Coordinate purchasing, material releases, vendor orders, lead times, and deliveries.
- Track RFIs, submittals, approvals, purchase orders, and outstanding materials.
- Communicate with general contractors, architects, vendors, property managers, and field personnel as appropriate, while coordinating customer‑facing communication with the assigned Glazing Project Manager on mixed projects.
- Visit jobsites when needed to verify openings, dimensions, existing conditions, or other project details.
- Review and price DFH changes to the original scope, support the established change‑order process, and keep DFH project costs accurate.
- Help troubleshoot field issues involving doors, frames, hardware, and product compatibility.
- Keep project information organized and communicate what’s on track, what’s outstanding, and where we need to take action.
- Work closely with our Glazing Project Managers and other AJ Glass team members to make sure the DFH and glazing scopes work together.
- Relevant experience in commercial construction estimating, project management, or both; approximately 4-5 years is preferred.
- Division 8 / doors, frames, and hardware experience strongly preferred.
- Comfortable reading architectural plans, specifications, door schedules, and construction documents.
- Working knowledge of hollow metal doors and frames, wood doors, and commercial architectural hardware.
- Familiarity with locks, exit devices, closers, hinges, access control, and fire‑rated openings is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to catch problems before they become field problems.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines without losing track of the details.
- Comfortable picking up the phone and working directly with contractors, vendors, architects, and customers.
- Strong Excel and PDF/plan‑review skills.
- Experience with Pro-Tech Titan, Bluebeam, STACK, Procore, or similar construction software is a plus.
- Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who takes ownership, asks questions, solves problems, and follows things through.
- Ability to safely navigate warehouse, fabrication, and active construction environments as needed for job‑site verification, including in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to perform occasional field‑verification activities around doors, frames, hardware, glazing, and related construction materials while following required PPE and site‑safety procedures.
