Specialized Support Staff – ELL/Disabilities
The Marietta Police Athletic League (PAL) is a nonprofit organization that builds positive relationships between youth, law enforcement, and the community through education, sports, recreation, and the arts. Marietta PAL provides After school, Summer Camp, Sports, Recreation, and Arts programming for youth in grades K–12.
The EXCEL Initiative is designed to enhance PAL’s ability to be more culturally responsive, better support English Language Learners and their Parents and better support students with disabilities.
Position OverviewMarietta PAL seeks compassionate and experienced Specialized Support Staff to assist English Language Learners (ELL), all Parents and students with disabilities in academic and enrichment settings. This staff member will collaborate with teachers, tutors, and program coordinators to promote access, engagement, and success for all students. This is an opportunity to work in a supportive, mission-driven environment, and make a direct impact on youth leadership, growth, and confidence.
Key Responsibilities- Provide academic and social support to English Language Learners and students with disabilities during after school and summer camp.
- Reinforce literacy, math, and language skills using developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive strategies.
- Modify or adapt materials and activities as needed to meet individual learning needs.
- Assist with written and verbal translation in Spanish and Portuguese to support effective communication with students and families.
- Serve as a liaison for Spanish and Portuguese-speaking parents, helping bridge communication between families, teachers, and program staff.
- Collaborate with certified teachers, tutors, and parents to monitor progress and identify additional supports.
- Encourage participation and positive behavior through patience, motivation, and relationship-building.
- Maintain accurate attendance and progress notes as required by program guidelines.
- Experience working with English Language Learners and/or students with disabilities (required).
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese both written and spoken (required).
- Ability to serve as a liaison for Spanish/ Portuguese-speaking parents to ensure clear, supportive communication and engagement.
- Background in education, special education, ESOL, youth development, or related field (preferred).
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and youth empowerment.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, community-based environment.
- After school Support:
Monday–Friday, 4:30 pm – 8:30 pm - Summer Camp Support:
Monday–Friday, 2:30 pm – 6:30 pm
