Position Title

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance and adheres to established work schedules.
  • Assists with classroom management and data collection.
  • Provides one‑on‑one support for individual students as required.
  • Teaches or assists students in developing social/emotional skills, physical/occupational therapy skills, leisure and recreation, medication management, and other preventive behavior skills.
  • Prepares learning materials for individual learning styles (study guides, modified worksheets, taped reading assignments, etc.).
  • Provides documentation of student progress on targeted goals and objectives.
  • Supports individual goals and objectives as determined by students’ IEPs.
  • Corrects class work and homework; documents and reports areas of strength and weakness.
  • Collaborates in co‑teaching classrooms, reinforcing instruction, using behavioral supports and interventions.
  • Assists in supervision of students on field trips and other off‑campus sites as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student information.
  • Serves on school committees, attends meetings, assists with school functions such as Child Find, screenings, intakes, and assessments as requested by Director of Special Education.
  • Provides additional academic services to students in alternative educational settings who are at risk.
  • Assists with basic needs of selected students (feeding, toileting, wiping noses, etc.).
  • Collaborates with counselors, teachers, administrators, parents, and related service providers on student educational plans.
  • Submits reports, forms, records, and data as requested by Alternative Education Director/Administrators.
  • Supports students in developing employment plans.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Principal or Director of Special Education.
Education and Experience
  • Associate’s Degree from an accredited school OR
  • Minimum of 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours from an accredited school OR
  • Passing score on the Georgia Paraprofessional Assessment.
  • Successful experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or other developmental delays.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
  • Cooperates with school personnel, parents, students, and community members.
  • Displays patience and flexibility in work assignments.
  • Follows teachers’ directions and instructions positively.
  • Relates positively to children with disabilities.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and responsibility at all times.
Physical Demands

The employee is frequently sitting and standing near students with disabilities; may bend or twist neck and back; may lift up to 45 pounds or participate in a two‑person lift; may assist students in toileting (including catheter), positioning or assisting students with extreme behaviors; may assist students in wheelchairs and manipulate equipment such as standers, walkers, etc.; requires ability to read typewritten material and computer screens.

Environment

Moderate to loud noise level; frequently interacts with the public and other staff; responsible for the safety, well‑being, and work output of students.
