The Honors Program at Georgia Highlands College brings together promising students of outstanding academic records with teachers committed to excellence and dedicated to student growth. This blend of teachers and students fosters a cohort of emerging scholars recognizable throughout the college and community. Such a cadre will provide an example to their peers that educational excellence has intrinsic and extrinsic rewards and is to be valued and celebrated.

This position serves the Mission of the Honors Program and the enrollment, retention, and graduation objectives of the College. Acting in support of the Director of the Honors Program, the Student Representative will engage in activities to support the growth of the Program, support progression through the Program for Honors students, and develop or enrich the offerings the Program provides. A Student Representative will gain valuable experience working in a postsecondary education environment, liaising with various stakeholders across the college, and engaging in community outreach.

The ideal candidate for this position comes to it with a passion for higher education, undergraduate research, student achievement, supporting peers, and the GHC Honors Program.

Responsibilities

• Responsibilities will vary from week to week and are determined by the Director and the needs off the program. The focus of this position is outreach activities during the beginning of a semester, with additional opportunities for outreach and program development activities at other times.

• Understand, support, and execute the college's mission, vision, and values and comply with mandates and regulations of government and accrediting bodies

• Understand, support, and execute the mission of the Honors Program

• Meet regularly with the Director to coordinate activities for logged hours of work

• Engage in outreach activities for students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders:

• Virtually and in person at GHC campuses and sites

• With the Director, members of the Honors Advisory Committee, or independently

• Complete appropriate training for college employees on the legal and ethical considerations for handling student Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and follow the letter of such laws and policies

• Assist in chaperone responsibilities for Honors student travel

• Attend meetings of the Honors Advisory Committee and work with Committee members on projects to benefit the Program

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

• Further opportunities may include:

• Aid in development, implementation, and assessment of Honors Program activities and procedures

• Assist in the processing of forms and information, including digitizing or reformatting, related to student Honors work.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and current GHC student

• Meeting SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress)

• Current-Year FAFSA on file with all Verifications and any other requirements complete

• Enrolled for at least six (6) credit hours

• Must have financial need

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of an'associate degree'in a course of study related to the occupational field

• Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions Honors Program from the perspective of a student

• Must have transportation access to reach all GHC campuses/sites.

The Director assigns work in terms of general instructions and spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

This position has no direct managerial or supervision authority.

Proposed Salary

This is a part time position of up to 19 hrs/week

Salary: $12/hour

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Knowledge of federal, state, University System of Georgia, Board of Regents, and institutional policies and procedures

• Knowledge of college policies and procedures and general GHC information, including all Honors Program policies, procedures, guidelines, and processes

• Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs

• Skill in engagement with others, including students, faculty, and staff

• Skill in oral and written communication, including public speaking

• Skill in recognizing & analyzing problems, and developing & implementing solutions

• Skill in research and fact-finding, and in the analysis and summary of content

• Ability to deliver on expectations without constant oversight

• Ability to adapt to different environments within the department.
