Director of Children’s Ministry

The Children’s Director at Marietta FUMC should be someone who is passionate about their relationship with Jesus Christ and has a desire to fulfill the church’s global mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. This person should be enthusiastic, energetic, willing to collaborate and try new ways of doing things, and have a good understanding of the wide range of children’s emotional, spiritual, and development milestones and needs for ages birth through 5 th grade.

As the primary leader for children’s faith formation on staff, this person should have excellent verbal and written communication skills with both other staff members and lay volunteers as well.

Job Requirements
  • A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a heart and passion for sharing God’s love with all children and their families
  • Bachelor’s Degree in child development or of similar nature
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience working with children and children’s programing

This person should be enthusiastic, energetic, willing to collaborate and try new ways of doing things, and have a good understanding of the wide range of children’s emotional, spiritual, and development milestones and needs for ages birth through 5 th grade.

As the primary leader for children’s faith formation on staff, this person should have excellent verbal and written communication skills with both other staff members and lay volunteers as well.

Roles and responsibilities:

Education:
  • Participate in annual and ongoing children’s ministry and leadership training, both individually, regionally, and corporately.
  • Attend all staff meetings as designated by the senior or associate pastor
  • Study and understand the spiritual and developmental needs of children within the church and in the greater community the church serves.
  • To guide the faith formation of children birth-5 th grade through engaging educational and experiential opportunities for children and their families throughout the year.
  • To oversee and lead Children’s Worship on Sunday mornings (Kindergarten - 3 rd Grade) and Sunday afternoons once per month (4 th and 5 th grade)
  • To oversee Children’s Sunday school curriculum and training and equipping of teachers (Kindergarten - 5 th grade) and coordinate with the Associate Director on curriculum for children ages infant – 4K.
  • To oversee the nursery program to include but not limited to checking in with staff and implement meaningful structure and faith formation opportunities for all children
  • Oversee annual and one time special events to include, but not limited to VBS, Easter, Christmas, Fall Festival, etc.
Volunteers, Teamwork, and

Collaboration:
  • To have consistent check-in times with the Associate Director to discuss the nursery program; to include but not limited to, checking in with Associate on staffing needs, budgetary needs, family events, and how to best implement meaningful structure and faith formation opportunities for all children
  • Collaborate with the Children’s Ministry Team (CMT) to create, initiate, implement, and evaluate strategies to find, connect, and involve children and families in the church and community into the mission and membership of Marietta FUMC.
