Lead Substation Physical Engineer

Leidos is seeking a Lead Substation Physical Engineer to design, review, and oversee high-voltage substation physical layouts and equipment for utility and critical infrastructure clients. In this role, you will lead multidisciplinary teams to develop physical design packages, grounding and lightning protection, bus and structure design, and equipment arrangement using CAD and industry design tools. You will coordinate with protection, civil, and construction teams, ensure NESC/IEEE/ANSI compliance, support estimates and proposals, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to continuous improvement and innovation in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead physical design of high-voltage substations, including layout, structures, and equipment arrangement
• Develop and review detailed design packages, drawings, and BOMs using CAD tools
• Engineer grounding, lightning protection, bus, and raceway systems to applicable codes and standards
• Ensure compliance with NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and utility standards and internal QA processes
• Coordinate with protection, civil, structural, and construction teams to integrate designs
• Support project planning, estimating, and proposal development for utility and infrastructure clients
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers
• Partner with clients to resolve design issues, address field questions, and support construction
• Contribute to design standards, tools, and best practices to drive continuous improvement
• Support digital workflows and documentation for IT-enabled engineering delivery
