Job Overview
These positions answer incoming calls from Utility customers, department personnel, government agencies, and others: take accurate descriptions of problem or issue, address and other pertinent details; and determine nature and priority of calls.
ScheduleThe scheduled shift is 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. The biweekly schedule is 2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on, 2 days off, 2 days on, 3 days off for a total of 84 hours worked every two weeks.
AssessmentA data entry skills test will be required for all applicants. The skills testing information and link will be sent via email after the closing date of this job announcement for applications received that successfully meet the qualifications for this position. The assessment will close on Wednesday, March 18th, 2026, at 11:59 pm.
Please note, failure to complete this assessment will result in elimination from this position.
Responsibilities- Answers incoming calls from Utility customers, department personnel, government agencies, and others: takes accurate description of problem or issue, address and other pertinent details; and determines nature and priority of calls.
- Dispatches personnel to locations needing service: operates two-way radio or console; relays and confirms information, instructions and directives; and follows up with callers as needed.
- Monitors alarms and cameras for Department buildings and facilities: reports alarms; and dispatches personnel as needed.
- Maintains call logs, dispatch information and work orders: enters, updates and retrieves information from Department databases; and verifies entries for accuracy and completeness.
- Performs related duties for Department of Transportation after hours.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by two years of experience in related dispatch operations.
- Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental FactorsEssential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
