Summary of Responsibilities: To greet patients in a professional, courteous manner and obtain and document pertinent medical and ophthalmic patient history on the appropriate forms.
Essential Job Functions- Provide optimum assurance of a safe surgical environment. Check preoperative and PACU areas, materials and equipment for appropriate patient care.
- Ensure a clean, safe environment through continued alertness to safety, explosive hazards and aseptic techniques.
- Maintain appropriate levels of office supplies and other materials to allow staff to complete assigned responsibilities and provide for patient needs by submitting approved purchase requisitions.
- Assist in control of traffic and personnel to ensure proper control of infection and asepsis.
- Transport patients for discharge.
- Discontinue IV catheter as directed by nurse.
- Assist in efficient turnover by performing patient care responsibilities in a timely, efficient manner.
- Clean stretchers according to infection control policy.
- Respect and understand the patient’s right to treatment and involvement in treatment decisions.
- Obtain vital signs for preoperative and postoperative phase.
- Participate in staff education programs.
- Participate in Surgery Center quality improvement activities.
- Do not engage in gossip or other non‑productive behavior as outlined in Employee policies.
- Ability to create a trustworthy and comfortable environment for patients.
- Ability to obtain patient blood glucose as directed by nurse (CLIA competency).
- Ability to administer eye drops as directed by surgeon.
- Ability to obtain intraocular pressure using Icare.
- Competency for cleaning, disinfecting and storage of lenses.
- Ability to communicate in a calm, orderly, and non‑threatening manner.
- Ability to work with interruptions and to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to speak, understand and write fluent English.
- Assist other staff as needed and attend required meetings.
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Empathetic with patients’ needs and concerns.
- Well organized with attention to detail.
- Treat patients with respect.
High school diploma or equivalent.
- Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
One year of experience working with electronic medical/health records.
- One year of experience working in healthcare as a Medical Assistant or related area in physician practice or hospital.
