USA Baldwin County ASC is seeking experienced Scrub Techs to join our Team!JOB TITLE: Surgical Technologist SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Physician and/or Registered Nurse GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Surgical technologists, also called scrub techs or operating room technicians, assist in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. They are members of operating room teams, which most commonly include surgeons, anesthesiologists, and circulating nurses.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS- Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program; or completion of an appropriate training program for surgical technologists in the Armed Forces; or federal government employment with equivalent training or experience.
- Prefer 1-2 years clinical experience in an operating room setting; may accept 0-2 years of clinical experience in a related field.
- Must be certified in Basic Life Support.
- Prepares and maintains medical equipment and instrumentation for surgical procedures.
- Before an operation, assists with setting up the sterile field, including instruments, equipment, drapes, and solutions.
- Follows state and federal facility regulations when attending to patients.
- Performs pre-procedure preparations to the patient's skin and body.
- Completes a safety check prior to the start of the procedure on appropriate equipment, supplies, etc.
- Assembles both sterile and non-sterile equipment and checks functionality.
- Assists with prep for patient procedure and transport to the procedure room.
- Assists with patient positioning on the procedure table and drapes the patient per procedure.
- Passe instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and assistants.
- Retracts, cuts sutures, and performs other functions under physician supervision.
- Participates in the count of sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments based on procedure type.
- Helps prepare specimens and assists with disposition.
- Assists with patient transfer from the procedure bed to the stretcher post-procedure.
- Clears and restocks the procedure room.
- Pulls supplies and instruments for upcoming procedures.
- Assists with maintenance of physician preference cards and inventory management.
- Assists with decontamination, cleaning, sterilization, and quality testing related to sterilization and high-level disinfection.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Graduate of a surgical technician program and documented experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) prerequisite.
- 2 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
- Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
- Demonstrated verbal and written English communication skills for safe and effective patient care and documentation standards.
- Computer literate with basic fundamental computer skills required for essential job duties.
- Ability to be on your feet for long periods and lift or turn disabled patients.
- Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment.
- Ability to concentrate for periods of up to four hours.
- Ability to communicate verbally both in person and on the telephone.
- Ability to use computer keyboard and view a computer monitor.
SKILLS and ABILITIES
- Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients.
- Demonstrates the ability to utilize recognized channels of communication.
- Maintains good interpersonal relationships with patients, co-workers, and other health team members.
Occasional evening and/or weekend work. Surgical technologists work in clean, well-lighted, well-ventilated environments, standing for long periods and remaining alert during operations. Exposure to communicable diseases and unpleasant sights, odors, and materials may occur.
