The Vaccination LPN is responsible for safely administering vaccines to patients of all ages while ensuring adherence to established clinical protocols and safety standards. This role includes conducting patient assessments, providing education and counseling, monitoring for adverse reactions, and maintaining accurate documentation in electronic medical records and immunization registries. The Vaccination LPN supports efficient clinic operations in high-volume settings while delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Safely prepare and administer vaccines via intramuscular (IM), subcutaneous (SQ), or other approved routes in accordance with established protocols and scope of practice.
- Perform patient intake, assessment, and screening, including reviewing medical history, allergies, and contraindications to ensure vaccine eligibility.
- Verify vaccine orders, dosage, manufacturer guidelines, expiration dates, and lot numbers prior to administration.
- Provide patient education regarding vaccine benefits, potential side effects, aftercare instructions, and follow-up recommendations.
- Address patient questions and concerns with professionalism and empathy.
- Monitor patients post‑vaccination for adverse reactions and respond appropriately to medical emergencies, including initiating emergency protocols if needed.
- Accurately document immunizations in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and applicable state immunization registries.
- Maintain proper vaccine storage and handling procedures, including cold chain management and temperature monitoring in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Adhere to infection control protocols and ensure safe disposal of sharps and biohazardous waste.
- Support clinic operations by assisting with setup and breakdown of vaccination stations and maintaining a clean, organized work environment.
- Monitor and manage vaccine and medical supply inventory; report shortages or discrepancies as needed.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure efficient clinic workflow.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and other applicable regulations.
- Stay current with immunization schedules, clinical guidelines, and best practices through ongoing education and training.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Active, unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in the state of practice.
- Associate’s degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or ability to obtain prior to start date).
- Previous experience in vaccination clinics, public health, or clinical nursing preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in administering intramuscular (IM) and subcutaneous (SQ) injections.
- Knowledge of immunization schedules, vaccine storage and handling protocols, and infection control standards.
- Ability to accurately document patient information in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and immunization registries.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to educate and counsel patients effectively.
- Ability to assess patients, identify contraindications, and follow established clinical protocols.
- Capacity to work efficiently in high-volume, fast-paced environments while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively.
- Commitment to patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform clinical tasks requiring manual dexterity.
