Description:

This occupation requires the planning, layout, fabrication, assembly, and proving of all types and sizes of aircraft tools and dies.

WORK PERFORMED

Plans the layout, fabrication, and assembly of all types and sizes of tools and dies working from tool design and/or engineering information. Supplies any information lacking on the design, print, or sketch.

Lays out, fabricates, and assembles tools and dies such as cam action dies; forming dies involving deep draws and compound contours; compound dies with irregular contour requiring coordination of punch holes, or compound dies designed for the production of light and heavy gauge parts; combination dies involving several planes and designed to perform joggling and dimpling operations on light gauge parts;

progressive dies that include a forming action, or involve more than two operations. Lays out and fabricates machine tool fixtures such as milling fixtures for angular and multiple cutting operations; checking fixtures and drill plates, involving irregular contours and locating points in more than one plane; drill jigs having coordinated holes in several difference planes not at right angles.

Proves dies as required during test run operations.

Suggests revisions in design and/or substitution in material.

Sets up and operates all types of machine tools, including generating NC code for CNC machine tools as required for the machining of tools and dies where established tooling is provided.

Works to exacting tolerances.

Performs satisfactorily any function of the Bench Machinist as required.

Performs rework wherein the operations are essentially the same as required for the work described above.

TYPICAL MATERIALS, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Materials worked on:
Ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys; plastics, etc.

Materials worked with:
Lubricants. abrasives, layout dies, etc.

Tools used:
Machinists' hand tools, precision measuring instruments including sine bars and "Jo" blocks.

Equipment used:
Machine tools as required; surface plates, etc.

To plan for and build all types of aircraft tools, dies, and gauges. To set up and operate machine tools as required.

To apply a knowledge of tooling heat treat and the machinability of metals; to apply a knowledge of machine shop practice and procedure.

To use precision measuring instruments. To read and interpret complex blueprints and sketches; to use shop mathematics, including trigonometry. To work to exacting tolerances. To manually pull, push or lift over 25 lbs.

Basic Qualifications:

The following promotional criteria is subjugated to and controlled by the job description and may be altered within the limits contemplated by the job description and as dictated by the Company requirements and the qualifications of available candidates.

PROMOTIONAL CRITERIA

For promotion to Tool & Die Maker "A", 545-3, an employee is required to have one of the following minimum levels of experience and/or training:

1. Three years of experience as a Tool & Die Maker.

Note:

A maximum of six months credit towards the three-year requirement above may be given to an employee who has satisfactorily completed a Tool Maker-Trainee program.

OR

2. Completion of a high quality industrial based Tool & Die Maker Apprenticeship program. Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training (BAT) Certified Apprenticeship programs are typically 8,000 hours in duration.

OR

3. Completion of a high quality industrial based Tool & Die Maker Training program. These programs should be typically 6,000 - 8,000 hours in duration and be similar in curriculum and standards as 2 above.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time:
The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

Work Schedules:
Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
