Position OverviewThe PV & ESS O&M Technician Level 3 serves as a senior technician and technical resource, leading complex maintenance operations and providing mentorship across all solar and energy storage facility types. This advanced role requires expertise in troubleshooting, project leadership, and technical guidance for both field staff and other departments.
As a senior member of the O&M team, the Level 3 technician will lead preventative maintenance programs, conduct advanced troubleshooting analysis, and serve as the designated safety coordinator for complex operations. A primary focus of this role is expert-level knowledge of solar tracker control and communication systems — specifically RBI Solar, SFR, and ATI tracker platforms — as well as the ability to troubleshoot and reconfigure SCADA and site data acquisition systems.
This position requires comprehensive knowledge of electrical systems, regulatory compliance, and the ability to manage both technical projects and personnel.
- Lead preventative maintenance programs and conduct advanced troubleshooting analysis, with the goal of achieving and sustaining 90% or greater visit efficiency across the assigned portfolio
- Serve as designated safety coordinator onsite and perform comprehensive job hazard analyses
- Install and maintain metering equipment, instrumentation, and power quality systems
- Provide supervision and technical guidance to Level 1 and Level 2 technicians, holding the team accountable to a 90% visit efficiency target and identifying skill gaps that create barriers to achieving it
- Perform workmanship audits and provide oversight of specialty contractors
- Lead execution of special projects and coordinate complex O&M activities
- Analyze and apply results of field tests to optimize system performance
- Identify and specify components for system repairs based on appropriate applications and ratings
- Support updating and maintaining electrical schematics and documentation
- Schedule, coordinate, and manage O&M activities and resource allocation
- Provide formal training and mentorship to junior technicians
- Fulfill administrative functions onsite and ensure regulatory compliance
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and reconfigure tracker control and communication systems across RBI Solar, SFR, and ATI platforms, including RS485/Modbus communication faults, controller configuration, sensor calibration, and network connectivity; tracker-related communication issues should be resolved without escalation in the majority of cases
- Utilize, troubleshoot, repair, and reconfigure SCADA systems and site data acquisition systems to ensure continuous and accurate performance monitoring, minimizing data gaps and unresolved communication alerts that would otherwise delay visit completion or reporting
- Serve as the primary internal resource for tracker and SCADA knowledge transfer, developing Level 1 and Level 2 technicians’ abilities to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot RBI Solar, SFR, and ATI systems through hands-on field training and structured knowledge sharing; success is measured by a measurable reduction in tracker- and SCADA-related visit inefficiencies across the team over time
- Install and maintain power quality instrumentation and equipment
- Successfully completed Level 2 technician competency assessments
- Advanced electrical theory knowledge and practical application experience
- Specialized safety certifications (confined space, high voltage, etc.)
- Demonstrated leadership and project management capabilities
- Comprehensive understanding of NEC, NESC, IEEE, and other applicable codes
- Demonstrated hands-on experience troubleshooting tracker control and datacom systems, with specific knowledge of RBI Solar, SFR, and ATI platforms required; competencies include diagnosing RS485/Modbus communication faults, configuring tracker controllers, calibrating sensors (wind, inclinometer), resolving network/IP connectivity issues, and integrating tracker systems with site SCADA and monitoring platforms
- Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing SCADA systems, data acquisition systems, and site monitoring…
