The Department of Neurology at Wellstar MCG (Medical College of Georgia) is seeking an advanced practice provider (APP) to join our growing Division of Neurocritical Care, a collaborative effort between the Departments of Neurology, and Neurosurgery. We are looking for motivated people to join our multidisciplinary team of neurointensivists, neurosurgeons and neurologists. The APPs are vital members of our team, work directly under the supervision of the Neurointensivists and provide independent care.
They perform standard critical care procedures including placement of central venous line, arterial line, lumbar puncture, endotracheal intubation, etc. Wellstar MCG has a 20-bed state of the art Neuro-ICU in Augusta, GA.
The unit is outfitted with multimodal monitors and continuous EEG, and is staffed by the neurocritical care attending, vascular neurosurgeons, stroke neurologists, critical care pharmacists, nutritionists, and rehab specialists. This position requires between 13 and 10 hours shifts to cover the Unit and involves attending on a busy academic neurocritical care service in WMCG’s Neuro-ICU, which provides primary management for all ICU-level neurology and neurosurgery patients, as well as consults for trauma patients.
Daily the neurocritical care team manages complex cases including intracerebral hemorrhage, ischemic stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, status epilepticus, neuromuscular disorders, CNS infections, brain tumors, etc.
The APPs are responsible for patient assessment on day of admission, recording patient data and tentative conclusions for review by the attending physician, performing bedside procedures, participating in daily rounds, reviewing discharge orders and providing patients/families with education and instructions for post-op care. Additionally, APPs assist in the education of neurosurgery and neurology residents, medical students, nurses and related staff. Candidates will be part of the Wellstar MCG.

- Bachelor's degree and successful completion of accredited Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program.
- Current license issued by the State of Georgia or eligible for licensure.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to effectively triage, organize and prioritize.
- Ability to function as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
