The O.R. RN Circulator is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized, high‑quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders, supported through the Well Star Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is steered by the Well Star Professional Practice Model, 5‑Star Nursing, and evidence‑based practice and research.

RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Well Star Core Competencies. All RN Clinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, implementing the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics standards set forth by the American Nurses Association. As a patient services team member, the individual upholds the voice of the patient, system policies and procedures while supporting service excellence goals.

• Performs the Nursing Process—assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation—using evidence‑based practice and analytical/critical thinking to ensure individualized care.
• Provides relationship‑based, patient‑centered care consistent with population‑specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) and adapts service delivery to reflect cultural diversity.
• Partners with the patient and significant others using appropriate methods for setting and purpose (e.g., bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, just‑in‑time and planned patient teaching) to keep patient goals at the focus of the care plan.
• Practices using current clinical practice standards.

• Coordinates delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model, including diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods (interdisciplinary rounds, case review, etc.) and timely documentation.
• Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and promotes recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members through effective teamwork and collaboration.
• Participates and supports performance improvement initiatives, including research and research utilization, to promote safe, quality patient care and promotes an inter/intra‑disciplinary process while actively supporting shared governance at all levels.

• Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments and required mandatory education, including population‑specific education.
• Serves as a preceptor or mentor for other professional nurses, staff, or students across disciplines to ensure a current and future qualified workforce and model the professional practice of nursing.

• Promotes evidence‑based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement in nursing; participates in activities such as value analysis in the decision‑making process for evaluating patient care products.
• Upholds all health care system and organizational policies, clinical competencies, legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements, ensuring compliance with TJC Patient Safety Goals and Well Star Health Systems safety absolutes.
• Participates in data collection, poses relevant clinical questions to advanced evidence‑based practice, consults appropriate experts, and uses resources and evidence to address practice questions.

• Proactively plans for patient care across the continuum while providing direct patient care.
• Participates in the development of protocols and procedures, collaborating with care managers and other team members to achieve best practice outcomes (e.g., reduced readmission rates, avoided days, adverse events).
• Supports efficient and effective use of human and material resources.
