Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - MedSurg Float

As a Night Shift Nurse at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, you will be responsible for delivering evidence‑based, patient‑centered care from 7pm to 7am, ensuring safety, quality, and collaboration across the health team.

Shift & Location

Full‑time night shift (7pm – 7am).

Location:

Kennestone Hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Perform the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) in the performance of clinical care using evidence‑based practice, analytical/critical thinking.
  • Ensure that care is individualized; coordinate care through effective partnerships, recognizing that caring is central to achieve optimal patient care outcomes.
  • Provide relationship‑based patient‑centered care that is consistent with population‑specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease, etc.) and adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity.
  • Always partner with the patient and significant others (as appropriate) using appropriate methods for setting and purpose (e.g., bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, just‑in‑time and planned patient teaching; keeping the patient and significant others updated and making the patient’s goals the focus of the plan of care).
  • Practice using current clinical practice standards.
  • Work collaboratively, coordinating the delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that promotes a respectful, inclusive clinical environment; complete timely documentation and promote an inclusive interdisciplinary communication model.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration by practicing in a fiscal‑responsible manner and promoting recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
  • Participate and support inclusive performance improvement, research utilization, and shared governance at all system levels.
  • Complete all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, mandatory education, and population‑specific education.
  • Serve as a preceptor and/or mentor for other professional nurses, staff, or students across all disciplines.
  • Promote evidence‑based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement; participate in activities such as value analysis for decision making in evaluating patient care products.
  • Uphold all health‑care system/organizational policies and procedures, and clinical competencies, including legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements; ensure adherence to TJC Patient Safety Goals and Well Star Health Systems safety absolutes.
  • Participate in data collection, pose relevant clinical questions, consult appropriate experts, and use evidence to address practice questions.
  • Proactively plan for the care of patients across the continuum while managing resources effectively.
  • Support efficient and effective use of human and material resources; develop protocols and procedures in collaboration with care managers and other team members to achieve best practice outcomes.
Qualifications
  • Required:

    Graduate of an accredited/approved school of nursing with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Preferred:
    Master’s degree in Nursing or other relevant advanced degrees.
  • Required:

    Valid RN license in the state of employment; single‑state RN license or multi‑state RN‑Compact license acceptable.
  • Required:

    Basic Life Support (BLS) or equivalent; BLS instructor and/or provisional status acceptable.
  • Required:

    Knowledge of professional nursing theory, regulations, and practices to evaluate patient care.
  • Required:

    Skill in assessment, examination, treatment techniques, and identifying problems to recommend solutions.
  • Required:

    Ability to maintain accurate medication or treatment records; perform department duties in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Required:

    Ability to maintain professional relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
  • Required:

    Ability to react calmly and competently in emergency situations; outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Required:

    Basic understanding of cardiac anatomy, conditions, and treatment modalities.
  • Preferred:
    Ability to process large volumes of patient information accurately and in a timely manner.
