The RN Oncology Infusion Therapy Clinician functions under the direction of the Manager Infusion Therapy or other designated leader. The RN Oncology Infusion Therapy Clinician demonstrates knowledge, competency, and clinical expertise in oncology infusion therapy, including hazardous drug therapies for treating malignant and nonmalignant conditions. This RN regularly administers chemotherapy, immunotherapy, antineoplastics agents, hazardous drugs, and targeted therapies. The RN works in an outpatient infusion center (alternate settings possible).
The RN provides safe patient care with an understanding of age‑appropriate and culturally aware needs and addresses the patient/family’s biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and educational needs. The RN serves as a clinical resource to nursing staff, operational leadership, and medical staff, upholds the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards of the American Nurses Association, and supports service excellence goals.
The RN attends staff meetings, in‑services, special projects, and continued education. The RN may serve as a preceptor for newly hired RN colleagues. Local travel is required; float staff will be required to float between Cobb Hospital HODs based on need. All sites are within 35 miles of Cobb Hospital.
- Performs the Nursing Process (assessment; diagnosis; identification of outcomes; planning; implementation and evaluation) using evidence‑based practice, analytical/critical thinking, ensuring individualized care and coordinating care through effective partnerships.
- Provides relationship‑based, patient‑centered care consistent with population‑specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease, etc.) and adapts service delivery to reflect cultural diversity.
- Partners with the patient and significant others using appropriate methods for setting and purpose, keeping patients updated and making patient goals the focus of the plan of care.
- Practices current clinical practice standards, including chemotherapy and targeted therapies for malignant and nonmalignant conditions.
- Meets annual requirements for chemotherapy competence.
- Coordinates delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care promoting the professional care delivery model, diverse inclusive interdisciplinary communication, timely documentation, and respectful, inclusive clinical environment.
- Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration, fiscally responsible practice, and supports recruitment and retention of healthcare team members.
- Participates in and supports performance improvement, research utilization, safe, quality patient care, and shared governance at all system levels.
- Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, mandatory education, and population‑specific education.
- Serves as a preceptor or mentor for other professional nurses (and staff or students for all disciplines) to ensure current and future qualified workforce, modeling professional nursing practice and creating a healthy work environment.
- Cultivates oncology nursing knowledge, engages in continuing education, earns or maintains a specialty oncology certification or obtains 12 continuing education credits annually.
