Job Summary
The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized high-quality, safe patient care. The RN functions within a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. RN competencies are derived from the Wellstar Professional Practice Model and evidence-based practice and research, and are underpinned by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
CoreResponsibilities and Essential Functions
- Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
- Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence-based practice.
- Provides relationship‑based, patient‑centered care consistent with population‑specific characteristics and adapts service delivery to reflect cultural diversity.
- Partners with patients and significant others using appropriate methods (bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, patient teaching) and keeps patient goals central to the plan of care.
- Practices using current clinical practice standards.
- Teamwork and Collaboration
- Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model.
- Demonstrates teamwork by practicing in a fiscally responsible manner and supporting recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
- Participates in and supports performance improvement and research to promote safe, quality patient care, including leading activities and supporting shared governance.
- Professional Development and Initiative
- Completes all mandatory education and population‑specific education.
- Serves as preceptor or mentor for other professional nurses and staff or students.
- Evidence‑Based Practice and Research
- Promotes evidence‑based practice, nursing research and performance improvement.
- Upholds all healthcare system policies, procedures, and clinical competencies, including legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
- Participates in data collection, formulates clinical questions, consults experts, and uses evidence to address practice questions.
- Resources and Support
- Plans for patient care across the continuum while providing direct patient care.
- Participates in development of protocols and procedures to achieve best practice outcomes.
- Supports efficient and effective use of human and material resources.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education
Associate's Nursing or Diploma (Nurse) Nursing or Bachelor's Nursing (Preferred)
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)RN Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN‑COMPACT (Multi‑state Compact), BLS – Basic Life Support or ARC‑BLS – American Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS‑I – Basic Life Support – Instructor
Required Minimum ExperienceMinimum 5 years completion of an accredited/approved school of nursing with requisite clinical hours and direct patient care experience.
