The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized high quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment that is administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and is supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is steered by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model and evidence-based practice and research.
RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Values. It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implement the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, it is expected that the individual upholds the voice of the patient, system policies and procedures while supporting service excellence goals.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Exemplary Practice and Outcomes:
- Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence-based practice, analytical and critical thinking to ensure individualized care and coordinated partnerships.
- Provides relationship-based patient‑centered care that adapts to population‑specific characteristics and cultural diversity.
- Partners with patients and significant others to set goals and keep them focused on the plan of care through bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, and timely teaching.
- Practices using current clinical practice standards.
- Teamwork and
Collaboration:- Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care promoting a professional care delivery model.
- Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration in a fiscally responsible manner that supports recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
- Participates and supports performance improvement, research utilization, and shared governance at all system levels.
- Professional Development and Initiative:
- Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, mandatory education, and population‑specific training.
- Serves as preceptor or mentor for other professional nurses, staff, or students to cultivate a qualified workforce and model professional nursing practice.
- Evidence Based Practice and Research:
- Promotes evidence‑based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement in nursing; participates in value analysis during decision‑making for patient care products.
- Upholds all system policies, procedural standards, and professional association requirements, including TJC Patient Safety Goals and Wellstar safety absolutes.
- Engages in data collection, formulates clinical questions, and consults experts to address practice questions.
- Resources and Support:
- Proactively plans patient care across the continuum while providing direct care.
- Participates in protocol and procedure development, collaborating with care managers to achieve best practice outcomes.
- Supports efficient and effective use of human and material resources.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Minimum Education
- Associates Nursing or Bachelors Nursing – Preferred
- RN – Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN‑COMPACT – RN – Multi‑state Compact
- BLS – Basic Life Support or BLS‑I – Basic Life Support – Instructor
Less than 1 year completion of accredited or approved school of nursing with requisite clinical hours – required. Direct patient care experience – preferred.
