Associate Veterinarian and Medical Director

Our client is a privately owned hospital that primarily treats cats and dogs, though they occasionally see other species. They are currently seeking an experienced Associate Veterinarian and Medical Director to lead a team of two or three FTE doctors.

Working Hours

The medical director is expected to work 40 hours per week, with some of that possibly dedicated to the medical director role. Appointment schedule: clinic opens at 8 AM, first appointment at 9 AM, last before 5 PM, day typically ends by 6 PM.

Role Description and Responsibilities

The Medical Director's day typically includes a mix of surgeries and appointments. Appointments are 20-40 minutes long. Clinical responsibilities span general practice services such as surgery, dentistry, dermatology, geriatrics, internal medicine, nutrition, behavior, allergy management, and diagnostics.

Hospital equipment: digital x-ray, ultrasound, digital dental x-ray, in-house blood machines, in-house urinalysis, wet table, dedicated surgery room, anaesthesia and oxygen equipment, and paperless medical records. The practice partners with a traveling ultrasonographer. The decision to bring in-house ultrasound is desirable.

Candidate will help hire two more doctors, mentor the team, and has opportunities for partnership or day‑one part ownership.

Qualifications

Experienced veterinarians only. At least three years of experience desired.

Team

The practice currently has three technicians who rotate through reception. Management of the office is shared with another clinic, but will grow with staff.

Compensation

Pro‑Sal with a base starting at $110,000. Production bonuses are unlimited and typical for the industry.
