Overview
The purpose of this position in the instrumentation technician series is to perform installation, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation and control systems pump stations and water reclamation facilities.
Responsibilities- Provide routine and complex maintenance and repair services to electrical, electronic, and pneumatic equipment and systems at pump stations and water reclamations facilities: inspect, test, adjust, calibrate, and service equipment and systems; ensure proper operation; identify and correct equipment and system errors and failures; locate, repair, or replace defective circuits, modules, digital interfaces, and other electronic parts; ensure equipment and systems conform with plans and specifications;
prepare new or modify existing operating and maintenance procedures as needed. - Participate in operational integrity and safety tests, functional tests, acceptance tests, etc.: verify proper operation of safety monitoring detection and alarm systems; identify and correct system failures; maintain logs of test results.
- Receive and review a variety of documentation: review shift data, flow recordings and other operational reports; read and interpret blueprints, schematics, sketches and drawings of equipment and assemblies.
- Perform manual labor tasks: install equipment and components; pull wires; remove and replace parts; gather and transport tools and supplies; prepare work site; clean up after work is completed.
- Assist in locating and coordinating materials and purchase requisitions for replacement equipment, materials and parts; review equipment contracts for vendor, part number, warranty eligibility, etc.; prepare and submit required documentation.
- Perform additional manual labor tasks associated with maintenance and repair of the systems; install equipment and components, pull wires, remove and replace parts, prepare the work site, and clean up after work is completed.
- Operate a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department projects, including calibration test equipment, common hand tools, volt and amp meters, etc.
- May provide emergency coverage as directed or required; work on standby status according to established departmental schedules.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Associate degree in a related field or Vocational Technical Certification in Electronics Technology, Industrial Electronics or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. Must possess and maintain valid Driver's License.
Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
Sensory RequirementsSome tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental FactorsPerformance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, machinery, or electric currents.
