Position Information
This position is located in the Central Maintenance Division of the Cobb County Water System. These positions are vital to the daily operations of the Water System. These positions perform highly skilled trades work to maintain and repair equipment at pump stations and water reclamation facilities.
Essential Functions
Installs, programs, tests, repairs, replaces, and maintains a variety of electrical fixtures, systems, equipment, and related components, such as variable frequency drives, soft and electromagnetic starters, electrical motors and relays, timers, counters, solenoids, actuators, complete machine control cabinets, reference circuits, electrical wiring, conduits, feeders, case assemblies, lighting fixtures, power supply systems, and other fixtures, systems, equipment and components.
Evaluates electrical fixtures, systems, equipment and related components: assesses and troubleshoots problems and errors; performs maintenance and repair work; and verifies proper operating condition.
Determines amount of materials needed to complete projects: provides cost projections and project coordination as needed; gathers equipment, tools, parts, and supplies to make needed repairs; monitors inventory levels; and initiates requests for new or replacement materials as required.
Performs general cleaning and maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment and tools in operable condition: inspects equipment; checks diagnostics; replaces parts; washes and cleans equipment; cleans shop and work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; and reports faulty equipment.
Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals: places safety cones, markers, or signs to alert employees and citizens of work areas, wet floors, or other potential hazards; and locks and secures chemical and equipment storage areas.
Prepares and maintains documentation for all work activities, such as work orders, timesheets, electrical diagrams, maintenance logs, inventory forms, etc.: enters and retrieves information into computer-based work order maintenance management system.
May provide emergency coverage as directed/required; works on standby status according to established departmental schedules.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED and vocational or technical training in electrical work; supplemented by five years of experience as an electrician in an industrial environment, preferably in a water and/or wastewater treatment facility; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Preferred Qualifications
State of Georgia Unrestricted Electrical Contractor License preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. State of Georgia Unrestricted Electrical Contractor License preferred.
Physical Abilities
Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).
Sensory Requirements
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors
Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as odors, wetness, humidity, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, toxic agents, disease, or pathogenic substances.
