Summary:
This occupation requires the installation, repair, and maintenance of plant plumbing systems, fittings, accessories and fixtures (including sanitary, steam, various gas, air, fire protection systems, hydraulics, water, etc.) and various gas and oil direct‑fired production and heating equipment.
Responsibilities include determining routing of pipe, sequence of operations, and location of plumbing lines, fixtures and accessories. Work is performed according to trade practice, specifications, blueprints, sketches, and applicable state, municipal, and underwriters’ standards and ordinances.
- Compute the type, size, and amount of pipe, connections, and other materials when necessary.
- Mark lines and points on walls, floors, ceilings, or open areas to locate pipe routes, inlets, outlets, connections, and equipment; prepare working sketches as required.
- Install, connect, and test sanitary plumbing fixtures and plant plumbing facilities such as compressed‑air, fire‑sprinkling, hydraulic, gas, steam, and other pressure systems.
- Troubleshoot plumbing breakdowns by diagnosing and repairing, replacing, or taking other corrective action. Use computerized equipment to perform work.
- Maintain gas equipment and install/maintain steam line insulation.
- Overhaul various gas and oil direct‑fired production and heating equipment: disassemble, diagnose, replace or repair faulty parts (burners, baffles, pilots, governors, floats, strainers, oil pumps, thermocouples), reassemble, install, test, calibrate, and adjust equipment as needed.
- Perform heating, cutting, and welding (non‑high‑pressure certification unless qualified) for plumbing system installation.
- Minimum three years of industrial plumbing, heavy commercial pipe and/or steam fitting experience.
- Ability to read and interpret detail plumbing assembly and installation drawings and plumbing schematics.
- Verifiable industrial plumbing experience.
- Must hold and maintain certifications required by the company, local, state, federal, or customer requirements.
- Residential plumbing does not meet this requirement.
Skills:
- Master plumber’s license or certification from an established licensing agency.
- Experience with pipe fitting, gas piping and fittings, steam piping and fittings, and water and wastewater collection and distribution systems.
- Proficiency with cutting torch and welding.
Physical limitations should be reviewed.
