Summary / Objective

The Chiller Technician reports to the Operations Manager/Service Manager and serves as Maxair’s direct customer contact. The role involves servicing HVAC products and equipment on assigned projects, ensuring customer satisfaction by identifying, analyzing, diagnosing, and repairing systems on site. The technician works closely with dispatch, the Area Team Leader, and customers, maintaining strong relationships through effective communication. Responsibilities include scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance, inspections, site surveys, and service requests, including equipment replacement, modifications, and related paperwork.

Functions
  • Safely perform preventative maintenance visits to Maxair customers, servicing a variety of HVAC equipment.
  • Perform emergency service visits to Maxair customers and new customers.
  • Purchase required material from supply houses using the Maxair PO system and submit weekly receipts.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and timely.
  • Communicate regularly with Maxair dispatcher for daily assignments and to report completion.
  • Communicate regularly with the Area Team Leader regarding any technical or customer issues.
  • Coordinate with Maxair service sales personnel to support repair and maintenance quotes.
  • Maintain equipment and inventory in your truck for maximum efficiency.
  • Display teamwork and dedication by maintaining flexibility for overtime, weekend, holiday, and overnight work, including on-call rotation for journeymen and approved apprentices.
  • Support Maxair financial goals and initiatives.
  • Conform to Maxair policies and procedures at all times.
  • Enforce safety to the highest standards and maintain security and accountability of company assets.
  • Exhibit professional conduct on job sites and when driving company vehicles.
  • Maintain any necessary licenses or certifications.
  • Attend required department meetings and vendor training as scheduled.
  • Work with and train HVAC helpers when assigned.

Work Environment

The Technician works in commercial buildings such as schools, hospitals, offices, and factories. Work may involve hot or cold conditions, cramped spaces, irregular hours, and ladders for rooftop units.

Physical Demands

This position is highly physical, requiring regular use of hands and fingers, walking, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 10 lbs. daily, frequently 50 lbs. and occasionally more. Work may be indoors or outdoors, in awkward or cramped spaces, and may involve handling heavy equipment.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full‑time position, Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Overtime and irregular hours are frequent during the peak cooling season.

Required

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Pass a pre‑employment drug screen.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Union 72 membership as Apprentice, Tradesman, or Journeyman.
  • EPA Certification for refrigerant handling (Type I and II).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and handheld computers (e.g., smartphone, iPad).
Preferred

Education and Experience
  • Associate’s degree.
  • Star certification.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Minimum 3 years as a Commercial HVAC technician.
