Baldwin Paving Company, Inc. is currently seeking drivers with a CDL Class A license to join our team, driving our Flatbed and other vehicles. This will be a full-time role. This position reports to the Grading & Pipe Site Foreman.

Summary

Performs a variety of duties relating to equipment and other materiel distribution activities and requires a CDL-A license.

Duties
  • Receives, routes, and moves equipment and construction material.
  • May identify, inspect, and segregate equipment or material as it is received for obvious damage and needed repairs.
  • Determines appropriate handling methods and devices needed to move items.
  • Prepares and processes all necessary paperwork and dispatches.
  • Ensures accountability, completes logbooks, maintenance records, reports, and other transportation documents for accurate accounting.
  • Determines proper identification, marking, labeling, and inclusion of shipping documents and special handling instructions on all shipments.
  • Assists the Foreman as required in actions such as determining freight shipping requirements consistent with efficiency and transportation priorities.
  • Analyzes and interprets technical transportation requirements.
  • Maneuvers vehicles within close tolerances when driving and backing over uneven ground, in narrow or congested areas, between buildings, and other vehicles when positioning vehicles at loading docks.
  • Operates vehicles on interstate highways, winding roads, and steep grades and manipulates the dual braking system to prevent the truck from jackknifing.
  • Ensures cargo is properly loaded, distributed, and secured.
  • Transports items that are bulky and unwieldy utilizing appropriate load balance and adequate protection for items.
  • Occasionally drives over rough surfaces.
  • Picks up items from job sites, local vendors, and suppliers.
  • Checks routine maintenance items on assigned vehicles such as oil, tire pressure, windshield washer fluids, power steering fluids, and gas as per required preventive maintenance guidance.
  • Keeps assigned vehicle in good appearance and assures it is in top‑notch condition for periodic vehicle inspections.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Environment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving and mechanical parts and equipment.
  • The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
  • The employee will be exposed to dust and fumes from cleaners, gasoline, diesel, and exhaust.
  • The employee will work outdoors and will be exposed to the weather, including extremes in heat and cold, and rain.
Physical Demands
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and requires manual dexterity and strength in arms and feet to manipulate equipment controls, tools, and other items used to adjust and/or minor maintenance.
  • Will use hands, arms, back, and shoulders to handle, install, position, move items, and manipulate other objects.
  • Could be in a standing, bending, kneeling, or sitting position for long periods of time.
Other Requirements

Display a professional and courteous attitude to co‑workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times. Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary. Ready to begin work at the designated start time. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Safety Manual. Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co‑workers or supervisors with other duties as required.

Protective Equipment

Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA and company policy. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position:
Coveralls, Fall Protection, Gloves, Welding Gloves, Hard Hat, Hearing Protection, Padlocks for Lockout/Tagout, Respiratory Protection, Safety Glasses, Safety (hard‑toe) Shoes, Welding Aprons, Welding Helmet, Welding Shield.

Education, Training, and Experience
  • 2 years of CDL driving experience.
