In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Interventional Radiology (IR) Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing invasive and image-guided procedures, including patient preparation, moderate sedation, physiologic monitoring, recovery, and education.

The position supports Interventional Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging services across routine, extended-hour, weekend, on‑call, and emergency operations, including CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, cardiac procedures, and other imaging modalities as needed. The IR Nurse serves as a clinical resource for complex procedures, promotes procedural readiness and patient safety, and ensures compliance with applicable clinical, regulatory, radiation, contrast, infection prevention, and accreditation standards.

This position provides flexible coverage across all organizational locations to meet operational and patient care needs and ensure consistent access to high‑quality interventional, cardiology, and diagnostic services. Job Functions
  • Completes documentation of care provided to patients within the department.
  • Administers medications including conscious sedation; handles emergent patient care issues.
  • Provides patient recovery and education after invasive procedures.
  • Call rotation for Interventional Radiology Procedures.
  • Provides nursing coverage across Diagnostic Imaging services to ensure appropriate clinical support for Interventional Radiology, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, and other imaging modalities during routine operations, after-hours, weekends, and emergency situations.
  • Supports operational readiness for Interventional Radiology services, including extended hours, on‑call coverage, emergent procedural response, and resource coordination for time‑sensitive interventions. Coordinates specialty supply and equipment management by monitoring procedural inventory, specialty devices, and supply utilization to support uninterrupted clinical operations.
  • Provides procedural nursing care for Interventional Radiology patients, including invasive procedures, moderate sedation, physiologic monitoring, and post‑procedure recovery in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Maintains procedural readiness for high‑acuity patient care by ensuring appropriate response to procedural emergencies, including hemorrhage, airway compromise, contrast reactions, and other procedure‑related complications.
  • Serves as a clinical resource and consultant for complex Interventional Radiology procedures, specialty nursing practice, and procedural problem‑solving.
  • Ensures compliance with specialty practice standards, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards applicable to Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology services, including radiation safety, contrast safety, infection prevention, and procedural quality.
  • Monitors specialty‑specific clinical and operational performance indicators to identify opportunities for improving procedural quality, patient safety, access, throughput, and patient outcomes.
  • Coordinates patient progression throughout the Interventional Radiology care continuum by facilitating efficient patient preparation, procedural readiness, recovery, discharge planning, and coordination with emergency, inpatient, and outpatient services.
  • Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Current licensure in the State of Ohio as a Registered Nurse required.
  • Minimum of 1 year critical care/telemetry experience required.
  • BLS and ACLS certification required.
