Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a full-time Shipyard HVAC Engineer to create the Detail Design documentation using the functional design documentation previously developed for the various HVAC systems for the ship design project to which they are assigned. In fulfilling this function they are to develop ship production related deliverables (i.e. production drawings and manufacturing workpacks) and exhibit the capability to assist Manufacturing in the resolution of production related issues.
They are to assist the Lead HVAC Engineer in developing a cost effective Detail Design.
- Resource management related to the project.
- Complete delivery of quality documentation and tasks on time and within budget to shipyard and Project Customers, evaluating the Functional Design Documentation and transforming it into production drawings and workpacks.
- Develop HVAC systems routing in a 3D model.
- Complete interference checking and assist in resolving conflicts with all engineering disciplines.
- Create arrangement and detail drawings, hotwork drawings.
- Assess raw material needs and purchase as required.
- Prepare HVAC system work packs.
- Assist HVAC Engineers in HVAC component selections (in accordance with contract requirements).
- Interface with Mfg personnel and resolve production issues.
- Develop change papers as required to support the process.
- Develop purchase specifications.
- Develop test procedures.
- Assist in the development of the project HVAC Engineering Team as requested by the Lead HVAC Engineer.
- Participate in kickoff meetings to review project objectives and requirements.
- Participate in specification reviews.
- Participate in regular project staff meetings.
- Review applicable QMS procedures with project team on a regular basis.
- Assist the Lead HVAC Engineer in developing and reviewing project documentation development schedules, providing input as requested.
- Prepare drawing schedules in accordance with the mfg work pack schedule as developed by the shipyard's Production Control Department.
- Coordinate manufacturing work pack release schedules.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and 6 years of increasing responsibility in the engineering field of competence.
- Associate’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and 8 years of increasing responsibility (or High School Diploma/GED and 9 years) in the engineering field of competence.
- Supervisory experience desired.
- Six Sigma or LEAN training desired.
- Experience with naval systems, proven by verifiable and specific work experience, technical publication, or patent issue.
- Working knowledge of standard shipbuilding rules and regulations, associated regulatory agencies, and the review & approval process.
- Current computer skills relevant to the field of competence.
- Familiarity with EPLA or ETAP.
- Strong Microsoft Office Suites computer skills.
- Strong 3D AutoCAD modeling and processing skills, including:
- Multiple layout drawings.
- 100+ tab drawings.
- Viewport manipulation.
- Layer management.
- 3‑D clipping.
- Solids creation and manipulation.
- Blocks.
- Ability to work within schedule and budget restraints.
- Professional demeanor.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidentiality.
- Basic Earned Value Management System competency is a bonus.
- Process Improvement Specialist knowledge and experience beneficial.
- Experience leading individuals and teams beneficial.
