Petroleum Inspector

This role offers a versatile career in the petroleum testing industry and involves significant travel (at least 75% of the time).

Job Overview

The Petroleum Inspector performs volume measurements, temperature measurements, sampling, calculations, documentation, and reporting to ensure customers receive accurate and complete assessments of quantity and quality. The role requires extensive travel and adherence to safety procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Understand and adhere to Caleb Brett safety procedures.
  • Measure volume, temperature, and sample commodity materials in pipelines, shore tanks, rail cars, tank trucks, barges, and ships.
  • Conduct visual inspections of lines, pumps, manifolds, shore tanks, rail cars, tank trucks, barges, and ships.
  • Complete custody transfer surveys for commodities moved to and from rail cars, tank trucks, shore tanks, barges, and ships.
  • Perform routine equipment calibrations, verification, and function checks.
  • Verify and communicate results, entering data into appropriate media (print or electronic).
  • Provide on‑job assistance to and receive training from more experienced inspectors.
  • Coordinate with terminal, transport, and company personnel to promote smooth execution of duties.
  • Monitor supply availability and notify dispatcher or coordinator of needs.
  • Organize and coordinate jobs to ensure timely service, report, and sample submission.
  • Maintain work areas, records, and equipment in a clean, organized, and functional condition.
  • Model Intertek’s 10X Energies within the workplace by practicing business the right way.
  • Adhere to safety practices and policies to ensure personal and others’ safety.

Minimum Education Requirement

High School or GED.

Qualifications
  • Basic grasp of mathematics and ability to work in an automated environment.
  • Ability to work on an on‑call basis.
  • No fear of heights; ability to climb ladders and stairs for shore tanks.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable driving record (required).
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Capability to work in a fast‑paced, multi‑tasking environment with shifting priorities and demanding deadlines.
  • Detail‑oriented with effective prioritization, organization, and efficient time management.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to travel for business needs up to 25% of the time.
Physical Requirements

Includes lifting, walking, standing, reaching, bending, stooping, climbing, squatting, and driving; ability to climb ladders and stairs for shore tanks.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience performing petroleum inspections.
  • IFIA certification is a plus.
