Shop Mechanic - Southern FS, Inc.

Salary range: $17-20.00

Summary

Repair, maintains and overhauls pickup truck, diesel and gasoline powered industrial trucks, automotive vehicles, and other company equipment performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Examine vehicles and discuss with driver or operator the nature and extent of damage or malfunction.
  • Observe and listen to vehicles in operation to determine malfunction.
  • Remove units such as engine, transmission, or differential.
  • Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear.
  • Repair or replace parts such as piston, rods, gears, valves, and bearing if economically feasible.
  • Overhaul or replace engines, carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps.
  • Install new ignition system, change, or recharge batteries and replace other parts.
  • Rewire ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels.
  • Reline and adjust brakes, repair or replace shock absorbers, and solder leak in radiator.
  • Replace and adjust headlights, install and repair accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers.
  • Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks and make adjustments.
  • Lubricate moving parts and drive repaired vehicles to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Fabricate special lifting or towing attachments, hydraulic systems, shields, or other devices according to blueprints or schematic drawings.
  • With supervision, contact vendors by telephone or personal visit to order parts.
  • Compare invoices against requisitions to verify quality and quantity of merchandise received.
  • Store purchased parts in storeroom bins and issue parts to workers upon request.
  • Keep records of parts received and inventory part periodically.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Indirectly supervises part-time employees in the maintenance department. Fulfills indirect supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning assigning and directly work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems; developing employees that are promo table within the company.

Relationships:
Work closely with the Facility Maintenance Specialist on large and/or special projects. Routinely supervises location Service Personnel as needed.

Qualifications

Education and/or

Experience:

Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or up to three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language

Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical

Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardizations exist. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must possess a valid class A Commercial Driver’s License with Hazardous Materials, Tanker and Airbrake and Doubles/Triple endorsements. Diesel mechanic certification is highly desired.
