Role Overview
The Marion VA Health Care System is seeking a full‑time Registered Nurse (RN) for the Caregiver Support Program within Care Management & Social Work Services. The RN assists in day‑to‑day operations of the program and ensures compliance and collaboration with local facility and VA Central Office support initiatives.
Basic Requirements- English Language Proficiency – must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f).
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by an accrediting agency: ACEN or CCNE. Alternatively, attending a master’s level bridge program with coursework equivalent to a bachelor’s degree may qualify for temporary appointment while completing the program.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. GNT candidates may be appointed on a temporary basis while pursuing licensure.
NOTE: Grandfathering Provision – All persons currently employed in VHA in 0610 series and performing the duties described in the qualification standard on the effective date of the standard (1/29/2024) are considered to have met all qualification requirements.
Grade Determinations- Nurse I, Level I – Scope: delivers fundamental, knowledge‑based care to assigned clients.
Education:
Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing. - Nurse I, Level II – Scope: demonstrates integration of biopsychosocial concepts and technical competencies.
Education:
ADN or Diploma with 1 year of specialized nursing experience OR Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional experience. - Nurse I, Level III – Scope: demonstrates proficiency based on planning and self‑directed goal setting for complex client situations.
Education:
ADN or Diploma with 2 years of professional nursing experience (including 1 year equivalent to Level II) OR BSN with 1 year of equivalent experience OR Master’s in Nursing (MSN) with no additional experience OR Master’s in a related field with BSN and no additional experience. - Nurse II – Scope: demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care.
Education:
BSN with 2 years of professional nursing experience equivalent to Level III OR MSN with 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to Level III OR Master’s in a related field with BSN and 1 year of equivalent experience OR Doctoral in Nursing with no professional experience OR Doctoral in a related field with BSN and no additional experience. - Nurse III – Scope: executes responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to complex client care.
Education:
MSN with 2 years of specialized nursing experience (including 1 year equivalent to Level II) OR Master’s in a related field with BSN and 2 years of equivalent experience OR Doctoral in Nursing with 1 year of equivalent experience OR Doctoral in a related field with BSN and 1 year of equivalent experience.
Foreign education programs or degrees are not creditable as related degrees.
Preferred Experience: Five years of experience with case management and clinical assessments in collaboration with multiple disciplines. Experience completing home visits and working with caregivers of Veterans; BSN preferred.

Physical Requirements- Includes a level of physicality normally associated with duties performed by nurses, such as direct patient care, long periods of walking, standing, sitting, moderate lifting, repeated bending or kneeling.
- Significant time standing with assigned patients.
- Utilization of safe patient handling and mobility protocols.
