Nursing Assistant
The Nursing Assistant may perform these duties in a variety of health care settings such as outpatient, inpatient, home, or community living care, acute, subacute. The Nursing Assistant will care patients/residents with acute to chronic conditions. Restorative Care Programs contribute to the well-being of residents at the Community Living Center by improving or maintaining the functional ability of the resident. This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule and assignments, as this is a 24/7 hospital.
The incumbent may be required to rotate tours and duties during low/high census or complete administrative tasks established by the immediate supervisor.
Assigned Duties, Functions, And Responsibilities:
- Utilizes blood glucose monitoring equipment appropriately and with infection control and lab instruction to obtain
- Provides direct patient/resident care for veterans with complex care needs
- Make observations of subtle changes in patient/resident conditions
- Documents care given
- Responds to appropriately to subtle patients/residents changes by contacting appropriate nursing personnel
- Administers complete tracheostomy care, including suctioning
- Initiates basic life support (BLS) interventions when action is appropriate
- Participates in maintaining a clean, safe environment for the patient/resident
- Monitors and documents patient intake and output, reports deviations in a timely accurate manner to appropriate nursing personnel
PLEASE NOTE:
Basic Life Support (BLS) is required for all staff in direct patient care positions per policy, the supervisor may also direct BLS certification for other positions.
Work Schedule:
Primary Day shift rotating weekends
Pay:
Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave:
After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy:
After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66
Retirement:
Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
