Nursing Assistant CLC; Restorative Care

Summary

The Marion VA Health Care System is seeking a full-time RESTORATIVE Nursing Assistants to join the Community Living Center (CLC) within Nursing Service - located in Marion - IL. The Restorative Care Nurse Assistant performs the essential function of providing restorative care programs under the direction of the Restorative Care Registered Nurse and is responsible for extensive documentation as well as competency in restorative care.

• English Language Proficiency:
  Nursing Assistants must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005 - part II - chapter 3 - section A - paragraph 3j.
• Experience and
  
  Education:
  
  Six months of general experience or one year of high school level education with courses related to the NA occupation, or completion of an intensive, specialized training course of study or program of less than one year as a Nursing Assistant, may meet the GS-3 experience requirements. Basic GS-3 criteria include:

• Grade Determinations (GS-3 to GS-5):
  • GS-3:
    Entry Level – basic responsibilities, closely supervised.
  • GS-4:
    Intermediate level – requires one year of specialized experience or two years of education above high school with courses related to nursing care; ability to provide a range of patient/resident care, observe and report deviations, use equipment for diagnostic procedures, and communicate effectively with patients, families, and health professionals.
  • GS-5:
    Full performance level – requires one year of progressively responsible assignments equivalent to GS-4 level, demonstrated KSAs including assisting in full range of nursing care, coordinating orientation and assessment of new NAs, recognizing and responding to emergent care situations.
• Preferred Experience:
  
  Prior experience in restorative nursing care, at least 5 years in clinic, long‑term care or acute care; knowledge of restorative care programs and ability to manage competing priorities.
• Physical Requirements:
  
  Ability to lift 15‑45 pounds; push, walk, stand, bend for specified durations; rapid mental and muscular coordination; vision requirements; hearing requirements.

• Provide direct patient/resident care for veterans with acute to chronic conditions in a variety of settings (outpatient, inpatient, home, or community living care).
• Administer restorative care programs to improve or maintain functional ability of residents at the Community Living Center.
• Assist with basic life support (BLS), tracheostomy care (including suctioning), and use of blood glucose monitoring equipment according to infection control and lab instructions.
• Monitor and document patient intake and output, report deviations in a timely and accurate manner to nursing personnel.
• Participate in maintaining a clean, safe environment for patients/residents.
• Perform administrative tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor and rotate tours and duties as needed.
