The Salvation Army Midland Division Thrift Store located in Marion, Illinois, is looking for a Thrift Store Assistant Manager. This role assists the manager with thrift store operations and performs all functions of a thrift store worker, including working with customers, lifting and carrying donated or purchased items, sorting clothes, pricing items, preparing and placing items for display, operating a cash register, making change, reconciling the cash drawer, and making end‑of‑day bank deposits.
The majority of the work is physical labor.
This is a part‑time position (25 hours per week) with a starting pay of $15.95 per hour.
Essential Functions- Interact with customers and other staff in a manner that promotes positive relationships.
- Sort donated items.
- Price donated items.
- Place donated items on racks or shelves for display.
- Assist in loading and unloading the store’s truck and customers’ or donors’ vehicles.
- Promote store sales.
- Assist in preparing the monthly report of daily sales.
- Adhere to TSA policies and procedures.
- Assist the Store Manager in preparing the work schedule to ensure coverage. Plan and supervise employees’ daily activities and workloads, including hours worked and timecards. Timecards are totaled, signed by employee and store manager, and submitted to the Business Manager each Monday morning.

Education and Experience- High‑school or equivalent diploma and one year of related work experience, or two years of work experience without a diploma.
- Ability to comprehend written job instructions, cleaning instructions, and material safety data sheets.
- Must be able to operate a cash register, make correct change, and be bondable.
- Basic communication skills with customers and employees.
- Must be a team player, a self‑starter, and perform well with minimal supervision.
- Must be capable of performing all essential duties.
- Continuous lifting of up to 5 pounds, frequent lifting of 25 pounds, occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, and frequent moves of 50 or more pounds using a dolly or cart.
- Most work is indoors.
- The display room is temperature‑controlled; the sorting/back room/storage area is cold in winter and hot in summer.
