Terms of Employment: 260 days
Evaluation Period:
* Formative evaluations throughout the school year as per MCS Performance and Assessment
* procedures
* Annual summative evaluation prior to July 1
Purpose of the Position:
Direct and coordinate educational, administrative, and counseling activities of the high school by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
Classified as Confidential Employee:
Functional responsibilities or knowledge in connection with the issues involved in dealings between the school corporation and its employees require strict adherence to confidentiality.
Minimum Requirements:
The following qualifications represent the minimum requirements necessary for an individual to perform this position effectively.
* Certification for secondary school administration and supervision
* Proven ability to provide leadership at the high school level.
Essential Functions of the Position:
The following functions have been determined by Marion Community Schools to be essential to the successful performance of this position.
* Establish and maintain a guaranteed and viable curriculum at MHS.
* Maintain a safe and orderly environment at MHS.
* Facilitate collegiality, professional conduct, and teacher competence.
* Enhance parent and community involvement at MHS.
* Direct all administration for the School Improvement Process for the instructional and curricular programs at Marion High School.
* Evaluate and supervise the work of all assistant principals.
* Evaluate and direct supervision of the work of all department heads.
* Direct the development of in-service programs for building staff.
* Develop, maintain, and communicate building procedures to staff, parents, and students.
* Direct the development and maintenance of effective student record systems.
* Develop and/or maintain effective building and corporation safety, emergency, and disaster procedures.
* Share responsibilities for employment, assistance, orientation, and supervision of all building teaching, clerical, and library staff.
* Implement Board policies and collective bargaining agreement provisions applicable to assigned building adherence to all state and federal laws and regulations.
* Account for all resources entrusted to his care by the school corporation or other organizations.
* Administer the corporation personnel accounting system for all building staff.
* Develop and maintain an effective school/community relations program appropriate to MHS.
* Participate actively in professional growth activities.
* In cooperation with the Director of Buildings & Grounds, direct the development and administration of an appropriate maintenance program for the high school building and grounds.
* Cooperate with other corporation administrators in the best interests of the school corporation.
* Exercise final authority in determination and implementation of student scheduling, teachers' class assignments, room assignments, and other issues relative to instructional programming.
Secondary Functions of the Position:
The following functions, while important and necessary to the position, have been determined by Marion Community Schools to be marginal to the successful performance of this position.
* Together with the Director of Food Services, supervise/coordinate the building's food service facility (the cafeteria).
* Act as the "official agent" for all athletic activities as regulated by the ISHAA and all other extra-curricular activities of the school.
* Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent.
Knowledge of:
* Policies, procedures and functions of school building leadership and management practices
* Best practice instructional methods
* Applicable software and applications
* Adolescent Development
* Teaching methodologies to provide assistance to teachers requiring instructional assistance at the high school level
Ability to:
* Use the school corporation secondary teacher evaluation system, including observation, report preparation, and conferences.
* Use participatory/collaborative leadership.
* Apply appropriate programming procedures for a large Indiana high school.
* Apply building and school corporation purchasing and accounting procedures.
* Plan, organize, and schedule priorities.
* Use independent judgment and initiative in making sound decisions and in developing solutions to problems.
* Discreetly handle confidential and politically sensitive matters.
* Make independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
* Tactfully and courteously respond to requests and inquiries/complaints from the general public and staff.
* Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
