Job Overview

Position Title:

Instructional Coach - Secondary (ESSER / Grant)

Reports to:

Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction.

FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt.

Term of Employment: 193 days.

Purpose of the Position

The Instructional Coach will increase the quality and effectiveness of classroom instruction through observation and feedback, lesson modeling, co‑teaching, mentoring, and facilitating academic reflection. The coach will assist in implementing a plan for targeted support using evidence‑based literacy and math practices aligned with research‑based instructional resources to meet the needs of all students.

Essential Functions
  • Participate in training provided by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE).
  • Collaborate with local administrators and educators to assist in instructional planning and expand teachers’ use of a variety of resources to provide high‑quality instructional opportunities, including lesson plans and curriculum writing.
  • Create and monitor specific, measurable instructional goals.
  • Provide research‑based professional development in formative assessment and data‑driven instruction.
  • Ensure that student achievement data is routinely collected, reported and used to drive instructional decisions at the school and classroom level while providing feedback and reflection.
  • Model high‑quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co‑planning, co‑teaching and providing feedback and support to teachers.
  • Provide support to teachers in analyzing student assessment data.
  • Collaborate with the District RTI Coordinator to develop and monitor the intervention program through observations and meetings with teachers, including developing resources and individual student plans for Tier 2 and Tier 3 students.
  • Provide professional development to educational assistants to help ensure fidelity with progress monitoring intervention implementation.
  • Implement intensive, research‑based professional development on high‑quality instructional practices aligned with IDOE standards.
  • Analyze data from district, school, grade, classroom and individual student levels; model continuous learning, maintain current progress and serve as a thoughtful leader for student literacy.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of classroom teaching experience with expertise in literacy and math content and pedagogy.
  • Valid Indiana Teacher’s License.
  • Proficiency in using instructional technology and classroom resources.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of best practices in reading instruction and Science of Reading.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and schedule priorities, and use independent judgment.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, and ability to collaborate with students, teachers, administrators and parents.
  • Ability to maintain confidential and politically sensitive information.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and climb stairs.
  • Must be able to hear and speak clearly.
