Position Overview
The nursing programs at all 18 campuses seek to hire RN tutors. The RN tutors will work with students in both the ASN and PN programs. The tutors will work with the students throughout the course of the program over the next three years. The intent is to assist students with both nursing course work and improve NCLEX‑RN and NCLEX‑PN pass‑rate outcomes.
The position requires sensitivity to, and an understanding of, diverse academic, socio‑economic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of college students and employees.
- Provide individual and group tutoring for PN and ASN students and graduates awaiting NCLEX testing by walk‑in or scheduled appointments.
- Deliver appointments in person or virtually.
- Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students’ diverse cultures, language skills, abilities and experiences.
- Provide subject‑specific content to help students clarify course content.
- Utilize listening and questioning strategies as the primary tutoring method to diagnose student needs and monitor progress.
- Recognize different learning styles and student preferences.
- Support students in developing appropriate research and study strategies.
- Use feedback and reflection to improve practice.
- Help students become more confident, successful and self‑directed learners.
- Maintain and submit weekly reports of services provided.
- Report to the Nursing Dean or designee information about student progress.
$25.00 per hour (part‑time).
Work Hours0–10 hours per week. Must commit to working between 4–20 hours per week during the established campus hours, Monday through Friday 9AM‑6PM.
Minimum Qualifications- Associate degree in Nursing.
- RN licensure.
- Maintained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Shows sensitivity to the needs of under‑resourced and disadvantaged populations.
- Demonstrates ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
- Commit to working 4–20 hours per week during campus hours 9AM‑6PM Monday–Friday.
- Prior tutoring or teaching experience.
Selected candidates will be subject to pre‑employment background checks, including a criminal background check, and the offer of employment will be contingent upon those outcomes. Official transcripts are required upon hiring.
