Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager

Oversee and manage all environmental, health, and safety programs at the facility. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations. Maintain compliance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), and local regulatory requirements. Lead environmental permitting activities involving air, water, waste, and stormwater permits. Prepare and submit required environmental reports, permit renewals, and regulatory applications.

Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, including EPA, OSHA, IDEM, and local authorities. Manage regulatory inspections and respond to agency inquiries. Coordinate regulatory audits, investigations, and compliance activities. Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive employee safety training programs. Provide training related to Hazard Communication, Process Safety Management (PSM), lockout/tagout, confined-space entry, personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency response. Develop and continuously improve EHS policies, procedures, and programs.

Promote behavior-based safety, risk reduction, and incident prevention initiatives. Manage hazardous waste generation, storage, transportation, and disposal activities. Ensure compliance with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and other applicable waste regulations. Develop and oversee waste-minimization initiatives. Conduct regular facility inspections, EHS audits, risk assessments, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs). Identify and mitigate chemical, physical, ergonomic, and biological workplace hazards.

Lead workplace incident investigations and root-cause analyses. Develop, implement, and monitor corrective and preventive actions. Track, analyze, and report EHS metrics, trends, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to facility leadership. Chair or facilitate site safety committee meetings. Promote employee participation and engagement in workplace safety initiatives. Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to incorporate EHS requirements into process designs.

Review equipment modifications and capital projects to ensure environmental and safety considerations are addressed. Manage emergency preparedness and response programs. Develop and maintain spill-response, fire-safety, emergency-response, and crisis-management plans. Monitor changes to environmental, health, and safety regulations and industry best practices. Recommend proactive improvements to maintain regulatory compliance and enhance EHS performance.

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related field. 3-5 years of progressive EHS experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience in chemical, paper, pulp, food and beverage, or other process-oriented manufacturing industries involving chemical handling preferred. Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and regulatory requirements. Strong knowledge of EPA environmental programs and regulations.

Knowledge of the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements. Strong understanding of hazardous-materials and hazardous-waste management. Proven experience interacting with regulatory agencies. Experience managing environmental permitting and regulatory compliance activities. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to influence employees and leadership at all organizational levels.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple EHS priorities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with EHS management software is preferred. Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or a similar professional certification preferred. Experience with in chemical manufacturing or Process Safety Management-covered operations preferred. Familiarity with Indiana-specific environmental regulations and IDEM requirements preferred.
