Maintenance Technician

This role focuses on keeping a large fleet of production equipment operating safely and efficiently in a clean food manufacturing environment. You will perform mechanical troubleshooting, support a preventive maintenance program, and respond to daily maintenance calls on approximately 150 machines. The position emphasizes strong mechanical aptitude, experience with hydraulics and pneumatics, and the ability to replace motors, while offering training and development for candidates with the right attitude and reliable attendance.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair approximately 150 production machines to ensure consistent uptime and reliable operation.
  • Perform mechanical troubleshooting to identify and resolve equipment issues quickly and safely.
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, including addressing oil leaks and changing O-rings in hydraulic circuits.
  • Troubleshoot and service pneumatic systems to maintain proper function and performance.
  • Swap out and replace motors as needed to restore equipment to service.
  • Work through daily maintenance calls, prioritizing tasks to minimize production downtime.
  • Support and follow the preventive maintenance (PM) program by completing scheduled inspections and service tasks.
  • Work with electrical systems up to 480 volts, with frequent work on 24-volt control systems, following appropriate safety procedures.
  • Collaborate with a team of maintenance technicians across multiple shifts to share information and ensure smooth handoffs.
  • Document maintenance activities accurately to support ongoing reliability and continuous improvement.
  • Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment while performing maintenance tasks.
  • Support production operations by responding promptly to equipment issues in a food manufacturing environment.
Essential Skills
  • Proven mechanical troubleshooting skills in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Hands-on experience working with hydraulic systems, including diagnosing leaks and replacing components.
  • Hands-on experience working with pneumatic systems and components.
  • Ability to swap out and replace motors safely and correctly.
  • Comfort working with electrical systems up to 480 volts and 24-volt control circuits.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn new equipment and systems.
  • Reliable attendance and a positive attitude toward training and development.
  • Ability to follow preventive maintenance schedules and complete routine PM tasks.
  • Capability to work effectively as part of a maintenance team across multiple shifts.
  • Commitment to working safely in a food manufacturing environment with required PPE.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience troubleshooting plastics processing or plastic manufacturing equipment is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a food manufacturing or packaging environment is beneficial.
  • Interest in expanding electrical skills through formal training or schooling.
  • Willingness to participate in tuition-supported education related to maintenance or electrical work.

Work Environment

The role is based in a very clean food manufacturing facility that produces plastic cores and insert-molded packaging products. The environment is safety-focused, with hair nets, safety glasses, and hearing protection required while on the production floor. Steel-toe footwear is not required. All tools needed to perform the job are provided. The maintenance team consists of three technicians per shift, with a total of nine technicians across all shifts.

There are two current openings: one on first shift (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) and one on third shift (11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., Monday through Friday). The facility operates with modern extrusion and molding equipment and supports significant manufacturing and inventory capacity.
