Northwest Indiana is comprised of Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Newton, and Jasper counties in Indiana. This region neighbors Lake Michigan and is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Northwest Indiana is the state's second-largest urban area after the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Indianapolis Airport is one of the medium-sized US airports, located 11 km from Indianapolis. Airport is the largest in Indiana, and the only one handling more than 1 million passengers.

About 150 flights are serviced every day, with Delta and Southwest Airlines having the most flights. However, the airport also offers flights by low-cost airlines like Allegiant and Contour. Atlanta and Chicago are top connected cities with IND airport. To get to Indianapolis, there are scheduled bus services, taxis and car rentals.

Northern Indiana VA Medical Center

VA Northern Indiana Healthcare System was formed in 1995 from the merger of the Fort Wayne and Marion hospitals under a single administrative unit. In 2019, the VA Northern Indiana Healthcare System had 1,887 employees and maintained 301 operating beds. Serve more than 44,000 Veterans each year. Marion VA Medical Center was originally built as the Marion branch of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers.

It has been open since 1889. Fort Wayne VA Medical Center opened in 1950. St. Joseph County VA Clinic opened in 2017 in a 71,000-square-foot facility.

The Community Living Center (CLC) RN will serve as a staff nurse and will evaluate clinical practice and initiate change based on current concepts and findings from research and/or evidence based studies.

Duties include (but are not limited to):

• Performing diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures appropriate to CLC's practice setting;
• Providing leadership in interpreting, supporting and implementing Medical Center and Nursing Department philosophy, policies, procedures, standards, guidelines and quality improvement processes;
  Accepting responsibility and maintaining accountability for actions and continued professional and personal growth;
• Serving as a consultant in clinical practice;
• Communicating and working effectively with others;
• Initiating and leading groups of personnel and interdisciplinary groups;
• Establishing relationships with professional and/or health related groups with the community.

We seek RNs who possess:

• Good organizational skills which enable completion of work;
• An ability to assume leadership duties;
• Ability to establish effective communication with residents, families and other members of the interdisciplinary team.

The RN should have a working understanding of cultural transformation, creating a home-like environment, a dedication to improving the quality of life for the residents and provide physical, mental, emotional and spiritual support and medical care for residents and/or significant others during the time surrounding death.

Qualifications

• United States Citizenship:
  Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
• 1-2 years of nursing experience
