Installation Technician, Electrician/ Electrician Installation
Job Summary
The Meter Electrician teams install and maintain self‑contained electric meters in the shop and on customer premises.
Responsibilities- Read meters as required for field order and on schedule for cycle billing.
- Install, remove, change, disconnect, and reconnect meters.
- Test single‑phase, network, and polyphase self‑contained meters for proper operation and accuracy.
- Program meters.
- Perform Credit and Collections related to order including disconnect and reconnect for non‑payment.
- Investigate irregular usage.
- Investigate energy diversion.
- Repair meters, meter sockets, and meter enclosures.
- Order, receive, ship, store, and inventory meter and associated equipment.
- Investigate self‑contained service power quality problems, install event recorders, neutral testers, and produce reports.
- Program, test, and troubleshoot relay controls for capacitors, regulators, and reclosers.
- Install antennas and radios for smart grid devices.
- Perform work from ladders and elevated platforms.
- Within 24 months of employment, successfully complete the Company's training and qualification program for this position including classroom instruction; written examination; job mentoring; and job performance demonstrations.
- Work overtime as needed including extended daily shifts and weekends.
- Work late shifts as needed.
- Work independently under semi‑direct supervision in a safe‑efficient, and productive manner.
- Proficiently use computers and applications related to this position.
- Effectively communicate with other employees, customers, and the public in a courteous and appropriate manner.
- Promote a positive image of the Company to customers and the public.
- Comply with all aspects of the AEP Corporate Code of Conduct.
- Report hazards and abnormal conditions.
- Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees.
- There may be additional expectations for the job, including specific work experience, license/certifications, preemployment testing, expectations about travel, shift work, etc.
- Associate degree in electrical/electronic technology, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience of four years.
- Qualified backgrounds include substation, metering, instrumentation, controls, power systems, or electrical maintenance, with demonstrated hands‑on experience in testing, troubleshooting, and working with electrical equipment. Examples include roles such as Meter Specialist, Meter Technician, Field Network Technician, or substation field personnel, as well as comparable military or industrial technical training.

- State Driver's License.
- Must possess and maintain a medical certification card, if required by law.
Wages starting around $30/hour and can progress with training and experience to upwards of $50/hour.

Physical Demand LevelM – Medium Work:
Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
