Job Description & How to Apply Below

Groen Automation designs and manufactures specialized automation equipment for the cannabis industry, supporting commercial operators with weighing, sorting, packaging, and other production processes.

We are a small, growing manufacturer. In this role, you will not do the same task every day. You will learn how our machines are built, how they operate, how to troubleshoot them, and eventually how to install and service them at customer sites nationwide.

We will train the right person.

The Position

We are seeking a full-time Field Service & Manufacturing Technician.

Roughly half your time will be spent in our factory assembling, wiring, testing, and troubleshooting equipment. The other half will involve traveling to customer sites to install machines, train operators, perform upgrades, and service existing equipment.

This role requires both technical ability and strong interpersonal skills. You will represent Groen Automation at customer facilities, so professionalism and clear communication are essential.

What You’ll DoIn the Factory

You will learn to:

  • Assemble automated machinery from prints and instructions
  • Perform mechanical assembly and machine setup
  • Wire machines and control panels
  • Connect sensors, motors, solenoids, load cells, and controls
  • Read electrical diagrams and manufacturing documentation
  • Test completed machines before shipment
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues
  • Support process improvements
  • Prepare equipment for delivery and installation

Prior experience is not required. We will train candidates who show aptitude and willingness to learn.

At Customer Sites

You will:

  • Travel throughout the United States
  • Deliver, install, and commission equipment
  • Train operators and customer staff
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment in the field
  • Perform upgrades and preventive maintenance
  • Communicate clearly with customers
  • Represent Groen Automation professionally

Travel is a significant part of this role and may include driving, flying, and multi-day trips.

A typical month is approximately:
  • 2 weeks in the factory
  • 2 weeks on the road

Schedules vary based on installation needs.

Groen Automation covers approved business travel expenses per company policy. Candidates must meet travel, customer site, and driving requirements.

Who We’re Looking For

We value learning ability and attitude over prior experience.

The ideal candidate is:

  • Mechanically inclined and hands-on
  • Comfortable using tools
  • Detail-oriented and focused
  • Quick to learn technical skills
  • Comfortable with computers and electronics
  • Willing to learn electrical wiring and troubleshooting
  • Able to follow instructions and procedures
  • Dependable and self-directed
  • Comfortable working independently and in teams
  • Clear and professional communicator
  • Comfortable working with customers
  • Willing to travel regularly
  • Professional in appearance and conduct

Helpful Experience (Not Required)

Experience in any of the following is a plus:

  • Industrial maintenance or machine building
  • Electrical or control panel wiring
  • Manufacturing or mechanical assembly
  • Industrial electrical work
  • Mechatronics, robotics, or automation
  • CNC equipment or field service work
  • Troubleshooting mechanical/electrical systems
  • Military technical experience and trade school training are also highly relevant.
What We Will Teach You

We will train the right candidate in:

  • Machine assembly and setup
  • Reading prints and technical instructions
  • Sensors, load cells, and controls
  • Machine calibration and commissioning
  • Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting
  • Field installation and customer support
  • Operator training and service procedures

Our goal is to develop a technician who understands our equipment from build to long-term customer support.

Compensation

Full-time position with competitive starting pay based on experience and aptitude. Compensation and travel details will be discussed during the interview process.

What Success Looks Like

We do not expect day-one expertise.

We are looking for someone who can grow into a technician who can:

Build it. Wire it. Understand it. Troubleshoot it. Install it. Teach it. Support the customer.

If you are mechanically inclined, enjoy learning how machines work, like solving problems, and want a role that combines hands-on manufacturing with travel and customer interaction, we’d like to hear from you.
