Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician
The Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains a wide range of production, process, utility, and facility equipment in a chemical manufacturing environment. This role requires strong electrical and mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with automated process equipment, motors, drives, pumps, conveyors, PLC-controlled systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and instrumentation. The technician ensures safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations while actively supporting preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives and continuous improvement of equipment reliability.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and process control systems to support continuous plant operations.
- Diagnose equipment failures, identify root causes, and perform corrective actions to minimize downtime and improve reliability.
- Install, maintain, and repair pumps, mixers, agitators, gearboxes, conveyors, compressors, motors, and other production equipment.
- Troubleshoot AC/DC motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), sensors, relays, contractors, and electrical controls up to 480V.
- Support PLC troubleshooting activities and assist in identifying and resolving control system issues.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, ladder logic diagrams, and mechanical drawings to perform accurate maintenance and repairs.
- Execute preventive maintenance (PM) and predictive maintenance (PdM) tasks in accordance with established maintenance plans.
- Conduct regular inspections, equipment calibrations, lubrication routes, and reliability-focused tasks to ensure optimal equipment performance.
- Utilize computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) software to document work orders, repairs, labor hours, and maintenance history.
- Identify opportunities for cost-effective equipment modifications to improve safety, reliability, and overall performance.
- Maintain process-related equipment such as chemical transfer pumps, tanks, mixers, reactors, heat exchangers, piping systems, and filtration systems.
Essential Skills
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills across production, process, and utility equipment.
- Hands-on experience with hydraulics and pneumatics, including troubleshooting and repair.
- Ability to troubleshoot AC/DC motors, VFDs, sensors, relays, contractors, and electrical controls up to 480V.
- Proficiency in PLC troubleshooting and basic understanding of ladder logic and control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, ladder logic diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- Experience performing preventive and predictive maintenance, including inspections, lubrication, and reliability tasks.
- Knowledge of pumps, gearboxes, boilers, piping systems, and related mechanical components.
- Competence in instrument calibration and maintaining accurate maintenance records.
- Strong mechanical problem-solving skills on the shop floor, with a focus on resolving breakdowns quickly.
- Familiarity with CMMS software for documenting work orders, repairs, and maintenance history.
- Understanding of maintenance principles, techniques, and processes in an industrial or chemical manufacturing environment.
