To assist classroom teachers in helping students increase academic and social skills, preparing them for inclusive activities, and maintaining a safe environment. Under teacher guidance, facilitate IEP goals and functional academic programming with group and one‑on‑one instruction.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Assist with IEP objectives, functional academic programming, and small group instruction.
- Support students with personal hygiene, health and safety, including CPR, first aid, medication administration, and equipment use.
- Supervise and aid mobility within community settings, program at events, field trips, and assemblies.
- Assist with classroom needs: movement between classes, art, music, PE, PT, OT, restrooms, and occupational therapy.
- Carry out teacher‑directed activities to meet individual student goals.
- Prepare specialized teaching aids and materials as planned by the teacher.
- Implement consultant recommendations from OT, PT, speech‑language pathology.
- Enforce classroom rules and promote a fair, supportive, inclusive environment.
- Use reinforcement strategies such as prompting, modeling and shaping.
- Model inclusive activities and provide feedback per teacher’s behavior plan.
- Convey etiquette and positive reinforcement to students.
- Greet students and parents and help integrate students into class.
- Maintain confidentiality of all student records.
- Keep the environment clean, orderly, and safe.
- Record behavioral data, accident reports, and other required documentation.
- Collaborate with teachers for student needs, concerns, and performance reports.
- Assist with assignment completion and reinforce concepts.
- Participate in ongoing professional development specific to students.
- Attend IEP and team meetings, sharing relevant information.
- Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, dependability, and a model of ethical behavior.
- Promote respect among students and staff.

- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with students preferred but not required.
- Experience in special education or related field preferred.
- Experience with behavior and learning challenged students.
- CPR certification (adult, child, infant) with AED preferred.
- First Aid certification preferred.
- CPI training preferred.
- Annual Mandatory Reporting for Child/Dependent Adult Abuse.
Must stand constantly, lift up to 80 pounds with assistance, carry up to 50 pounds, squatting and trunk rotation, work in various temperatures and noise levels, and pass a pre‑employment physical.
Work EnvironmentQuiet to loud; outdoor work in all weather; requires some supervisory responsibilities.
