Reports to: Activities Director and High School Principal
Qualifications: Must possess a Coaching Endorsement or Coaching Authorization as mandated by the Iowa Department of Education, Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, Iowa High School Athletic Association, and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.
Job Goal: To develop and promote the activity at Marion High School for which he/she is hired.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist in organizing, conducting, and evaluating daily practices.
- Maintain inventory and perform periodic safety checks of equipment, supplies, and facilities.
- Supervise locker rooms and facilities until all students leave.
- Ensure necessary medical attention.
- Attend games, matches, and meets (unless scouting).
- Attend required IHSAA/IGHSAU meetings and submit mandatory paperwork.
- Scout when directed by the Head Varsity Coach.
- Assist Booster Club with activity‑specific needs.
- Attend meetings called by the Head Coach.
- Check academic progress and eligibility per Marion Independent Schools, IHSAA, and IGHSAU rules.
- Establish and enforce regulations of Marion Independent Schools, IHSAA, IGHSAU, informing participants of policies.
- Promote loyalty to Head Coach philosophies.
- Provide feedback to Head Coach and/or Activities Director on individual and team issues.
- Model sportsmanship and high ideals, acting as an example.
- Model integrity and ethical behavior.
- Know sport rules.
- Attend clinics and read literature to stay abreast of changes.
- Provide Activities Director with mandatory documentation and school records.
- Communicate with administration, faculty, activities director, parents, students, and staff for an efficient Activities Department.
- Work hard, be positive, and be on time.
