Job Description

Position Title:
Health Services/Student Specific School Nurse
(Please note - nurse will need to ride the bus with the student to school and back home)
Immediate Supervisor:
Building Principal(s)

Summary: The School Nurse provides direct health services to individual students and participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the health services program.
The classroom/ 1:1 primary nurse provides direct care and health services to individual student(s) with health concerns and high medical needs, participates in the planning and implementation of these students' daily health concerns in accordance with the Individual health plan and health care providers orders for said student(s).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Assesses and manages health-related conditions to designated student(s).
    Stays abreast of current information and trends in health care field and provides leadership in responding to new initiatives.
  • Coordinates the school nurseand school-based management of health problems with the student (s), his/her family, the health care provider.
  • Works with the school (building) nurse in contacting physician concerning health issues and medications in relation to their student (s).
  • Participates in obtaining developmental health histories from parents and/or health records, observing student behavior in classroom settings, and initiating the routing of behavior checklists.
  • Implements student (s) individual health plans and special emergency health services for assigned student (s).
  • Assist building nurse in educational opportunities for classroom staff regarding their student(s) health related issues.
  • Assures that school health services and activities are appropriately documented, both manually and electronically.
  • Facilitates Medicaid reimbursement procedures for direct care related to their student(s)
  • Demonstrates regular and reliable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
    Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct 1:1 care to assigned student(s)


    Minimum Education or

    Experience:

    RN with Baccalaureate degree required. LPN or RN
    CPR certification required.
    Licensure or Certification:
    Current Iowa Nursing License:
    Current LPN Iowa Nursing License or Current Iowa Nursing License
