The Marine Facilities Associate supports the maintenance, repair, and daily operation of campus facilities with primary responsibility for waterfront infrastructure and marine operations. This role ensures that all facilities, equipment, docks, and vessels are safe, functional, and well maintained through a combination of preventative maintenance, repairs, and seasonal operational support.

The position works closely with the Director of Waterfront and collaborates with the Facilities Department to support both waterfront and general campus maintenance needs. The role requires strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to manage a varied workload that includes seasonal peaks in boat handling and off-season repair work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced fiberglass and gel coat repair and restoration on vessels and marine equipment, including structural repair, surface finishing, and preventative maintenance
  • Operate forklifts, trailers, and towing vehicles to launch, haul, transport, and store boats and marine equipment safely
  • Support vessel operations including launching, retrieval, movement, and general handling of boats and related equipment
  • Maintain, repair, and install docks, floats, moorings, and other waterfront infrastructure systems
  • Conduct engine maintenance and basic mechanical repairs for small vessels and related systems
  • Perform general facilities maintenance work including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding, roofing, concrete, asphalt, and grounds maintenance as assigned, with painting as an occasional task
  • Perform preventive maintenance on waterfront infrastructure, vessels, and campus equipment
  • Assist with seasonal boat storage, launching, and retrieval operations during peak periods (approximately 8 weeks annually)
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs
  • Follow all safety procedures and uphold occupational safety standards at all times
  • Communicate effectively with staff, students, and external partners as needed
  • Work independently or collaboratively depending on assignment needs
Qualifications
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a waterfront, marine, or boatyard environment preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in fiberglass and gel coat repair required
  • Experience operating forklifts and towing trailers with boats or similar loads required
  • Experience with small vessel engine maintenance and repair
  • Experience with dock, float, and mooring system maintenance
  • General facilities maintenance experience including carpentry and repair work preferred
  • Valid Massachusetts driver’s license or ability to obtain one
  • Boating license or ability to obtain one

  • Strong fiberglass repair and marine structural restoration skills
  • Experience operating forklifts, trailers, and towing equipment safely
  • Knowledge of marine and workplace safety practices
  • Mechanical troubleshooting ability for small engines and marine systems
  • Ability to perform hands‑on maintenance across multiple trades
  • Ability to prioritize and manage varied work assignments
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
  • Basic recordkeeping and maintenance tracking skills
  • Basic computer proficiency

  • Advanced fiberglass layup, repair, and refinishing experience
  • Strong experience with waterfront infrastructure (docks, floats, moorings)
  • Welding, carpentry, roofing, or structural repair experience
  • Experience in school, camp, or multi‑use campus environments
  • Experience with preventive maintenance systems or work order software
  • Ability to independently diagnose and resolve structural or mechanical issues
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 75 pounds
  • Regular physical activity including standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and working in confined or elevated spaces
  • Work performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity
