Qualifications
  • Must hold a valid Ohio Teaching License and/or the appropriate Endorsement and Authorization for the assignment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in education from an accredited college or university.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • High or Middle School experience preferred.
  • Must be willing or be trained in Crisis Prevention Institute, Restorative Practices, De‑escalation Techniques, etc.
Terms of Employment

Contract, salary, and benefits per negotiated agreement.

Salary is dependent upon experience and education. Ranges from 48,375 to 89,584.

Job Goal

The teacher is the primary instructional delivery person in the classroom. Student learning and growth are primarily dependent on the work and efforts of the classroom teacher. The position is demanding, varied and complex. The classroom teacher must have excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills and be well trained in content knowledge and researched based effective teaching strategies.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Establishes criteria for students in the alternative education program and administers the centers procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all pertinent rules, regulations, and statutes, and assures the alternative education program meets such requirement and standards.
  • Assumes all responsibilities for the collection, review, and submission of all forms and reports relative to the program to the administration.
  • Assists with attendance calls and MTSS Plans.
  • Implements restorative practices and other social emotional learning practices into their classroom on a daily basis.
  • Supervises all students in the alternative education program and counsels them regularly on both a formal and informal basis.
  • Works with individual students in devising sequences of educational experiences that may be expected to lead the students to achievement of their specified goals.
  • Serves as a resource person to students.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all the policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops such procedures as are necessary for the success of the alternative education program.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Acts as support in areas of behavior management.
  • Demonstrates a focus for student learning, with appropriate learning objectives that include measurable goal(s) for student learning aligned with the Ohio standards.
  • Employs a variety of formal and informal assessment techniques to collect evidence of students’ knowledge and skills and analyzes data to effectively inform instructional planning and delivery.
  • Plans and sequences instruction to include the important content, concepts, and processes in school and district curriculum priorities and in state standards.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with students’ background knowledge and experiences and describes multiple procedures used to obtain this information.
  • Supports the learning needs of students, through a variety of strategies, materials, and/or pacing that make learning accessible and challenging for each student.
  • Maintains positive rapport with students and demonstrates respect for and interest in all students.
  • Creates routines and procedures that run smoothly throughout the lesson, and students assume age‑appropriate levels of responsibility for the efficient operation of the classroom.
