Middle School Assistant Show Choir Director – Range VIII

Qualifications:

  • PASP – Pupil Activity Supervisor Permit issued by The Ohio Department of Education, which includes:

    - Fundamentals of Coaching
  • Concussion Education
  • Valid CPR Certification
  • First Aide/Health Safety
  • A thorough knowledge of the activity that is being taught
  • Alternative to the above qualifications as superintendent and/or board of education may find appropriate
  • Knowledge of competition venues
  • Ability to assist the arrangement and program music appropriate for show choir
  • Ability to assist a choral rehearsal
  • Ability to help budget and organize events
  • Know and use vocal pedagogy
  • Be able to assist the teaching of varied styles of music using vocal technique
  • Be able to help plan, organize, and run a vocal rehearsal
  • Ability to assist in creating a show design based on competition-style show choir
  • Ability to assist conduct and lead instrumentalists
  • Basic knowledge of travel and trailers
  • Basic piano playing skills
  • Knowledge of musical theater
  • Background in musical theater (preferred)
  • Learn choreography and assist teaching students
  • Establish stage posture and presence
  • Educate students on appropriate behavior in different environments
  • Follow Marion City Schools protocols for transportation, field trips, and staffing

To lead, promote, and facilitate students to achieve maximum potential in the chosen activity by instilling ethical values, teamwork, and a winning attitude. To assist the Middle School Show Choir Director in all of the following requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • An extensive knowledge and background of the activity that he/she is directing
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Effective, active listening skills
  • Organizational and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of child development and an understanding of age appropriate tasks
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Interacts in a positive manner with staff, parents and students
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships

Essential Functions:

  • Assist the Director with the submission of student rosters by April 1 or by the end of the season to the EMIS secretary.
  • Must include local seal requirements by student.
  • Respond appropriately to crisis situations (i.e. emergencies, employee/parent concerns)
  • Ensure the safety of students
  • Set a good moral and ethical example for students, the student body, and community
  • Work cooperatively with the Boosters to better the music program
  • Follow board policies
  • Conduct oneself in an ethical manner during contests and practices
  • Set up practice schedules
  • Notify parents of students needing medical attention, refer for physical and keep record of injury
  • Responsible for all equipment and inventory
  • Responsible for handing out, collecting, cleaning and storage of equipment
