Medical Forensic Nurse

This position provides medical forensic exams to victims of intentional and/or interpersonal violence (sexual assault, domestic violence, human trafficking). He/She is accountable for the practice of forensic nursing as defined by state and national guidelines, the Ohio Revised Code, and the International Association of Forensic Nursing (IAFN).

Responsibilities and duties include:

• 80% Assessment/Diagnosis:
  Collection of comprehensive data, detailed history, prioritization of data collection, head-to-toe assessment, evidence collection, identification of life threatening injuries, identification of pertinent nursing diagnoses.
• 20%:
  Safety Planning/Follow up care:
  Involves Law Enforcement, patient, family, coordinates follow up care, modifies expected outcomes, testifies in court.

As a High Reliability Organization (HRO), responsibilities require focus on safety, quality and efficiency in performing job duties.

Minimum qualifications include:

• Associate's Degree (Required)
• BLS
  - Basic Life Support
  - American Heart Association
• RN
  - Registered Nurse
  - Ohio Board of Nursing

Additional job description includes:

• Minimum of one year of service with Ohio Health and a current registered nurse license from the State of Ohio.
• Completion of a 40+ hour didactic training, performing speculum exams under the direct supervision of a physician/ NP/PA until competent and complete 3 sexual assault exams with an experienced forensic nurse either on a patient or in a simulation environment.
• Commitment to being on call a minimum of 24 hours per month for their assigned area, attendance at bi-monthly meetings, and continuing educational opportunities.
• Willingness to commit to providing 2 years of service as a forensic nurse after training has been completed.
