Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineering & CAD/CNC Programmer to support our structural steel fabrication operations. This position will be responsible for creating and maintaining AutoCAD and CNC files for our Plasma and Python lines
, interpreting complex customer and company drawings, supporting production, and identifying opportunities to improve manufacturing processes.
The ideal candidate will have strong structural steel fabrication experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to turn engineering drawings into accurate, production-ready files.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, modify, and maintain AutoCAD drawings and CNC files for Plasma and Python equipment.
- Read and interpret detailed structural steel blueprints, customer drawings, and engineering documents.
- Ensure CNC programs accurately match drawings, dimensions, quantities, and job requirements.
- Utilize SAGE ERP to review and maintain job, material, and production information.
- Work closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, Scheduling, and Management.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for production and machine operators.
- Identify and recommend improvements to manufacturing processes, efficiency, material utilization, and workflow.
- Help identify potential problems before they reach production.
- Manage multiple projects and meet deadlines based on customer requirements.
- Maintain accurate files, revisions, and production documentation.
- Participate in continuous improvement and new equipment/process development.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in steel fabrication manufacturing.
- Advanced blueprint and structural steel drawing interpretation skills.
- Strong AutoCAD experience.
- CNC programming experience, preferably with plasma and structural steel processing equipment.
- Experience with SAGE or similar ERP systems
. - Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, particularly I-beams and structural shapes.
- Excellent problem-solving and process-improvement skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to prioritize work and meet customer-driven deadlines.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proficient computer skills and ability to learn new software and equipment.
Physical Requirements
This position requires a combination of office and manufacturing-floor work. The employee must be able to sit or stand for extended periods
, regularly walk through the manufacturing facility, and safely work around an active steel fabrication environment while following all required safety procedures and PPE requirements.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is someone who understands both the computer and the manufacturing floor
—a person who can take a customer drawing, create the necessary CAD/CNC files, understand how the part will actually be produced, and identify ways to make the process faster, safer, more efficient, and more accurate.
Qualifications:
- Experience with ERP systems;
Sage preferred. - Manufacturing, steel fabrication, or production planning experience preferred.
- Strong Excel, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and manage multiple priorities.
Physical Requirements:
- Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to work in office and production environments using required PPE.
- Most of the time will be in an office environment but occasionally perform cycle counts outside.
- Use of PPE is mandatory to ensure safety.
