Job Summary
This position provides care that focuses on pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, care of the newborn, and family planning and gynecological needs of the woman. The CNM practices under the supervision of one or more collaborating physicians and will refer patients who develop complications requiring physician care to an obstetrician.
Responsibilities and Duties- Uncomplicated prenatal care within the scope of a Nurse Midwife.
- Intrapartum care on patients meeting criteria for normal delivery (no forceps or vacuum).
- Pitocin augmentation or induction under the direction and approval of the supervising physician or alternate.
- Use of internal and external monitors.
- Active rupture of membranes without consultation only if patient is in active labor, 3 cm dilated, 1 station, and at least 80% effaced.
- Local analgesia/anesthesia including pudendal anesthesia.
- Consult physician when deviations from normal rise.
- Normal postpartum care.
- Normal newborn care in the delivery room and/or recovery room only.
- Repair of superficial vaginal and perineal lacerations.
- Comply with all policies and procedures of the OB/GYN department and hospital policies for Labor and Delivery Nurse Midwives.
- Document according to L&D policy in progress notes and L&D records.
- Focus on safety, quality and efficiency as a High Reliability Organization.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing (Required).
- Certified Electronic Fetal Monitoring (CR), National Certification Corporation.
- Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) – American Midwifery Certification Board.
- Registered Nurse, Ohio Board of Nursing.
- Licensed in the State of Ohio as a registered nurse.
- Certified by the American College of Nurse Midwives.
- Graduate of a college for nurse midwives in good standing as determined by the Board at the time of graduation.
